But for Democrat candidate Katie Darling, who is challenging Minority Whip Steve Scalise for Louisiana\u2019s 1st Congressional District, giving birth was a great opportunity to peddle the demise of unborn babies in a campaign advertisement. <\/p>\n<p>The ad starts with footage of the pregnant Darling navigating chores as she longingly awaits the arrival of her newest child. The baby is a boy who Darling says will join his older sister as a helper around the family\u2019s farm.<\/p>\n<p>Mere seconds into the ad, Darling\u2019s seemingly perfect world is suddenly clouded when she remembers that babies in Louisiana have a strong chance at life outside of the womb thanks to the state\u2019s near-total abortion ban. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese days I worry about storms that are stronger and more frequent because of climate change, about our kids\u2019 underperforming public schools, and about Louisiana\u2019s new abortion ban, one of the strictest and most severe in the country,\u201d Darling says in a voiceover.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"jeMmk7lI2xTNds1PhuTW0bQFJ4xBWgqXHZc0czjgCtvQoOdamv2rR8YpwZnCUE7aNoELiyz\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Louisiana ranks 50th in crime, 48th in education, and 46th in health care. I\u2019m running for Congress to stop this race to the bottom because our children deserve better. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/OfFQHuPTzU\">pic.twitter.com\/OfFQHuPTzU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Katie Darling for Louisiana (@katie4louisiana) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/katie4louisiana\/status\/1576980407849046017?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 3, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Directly after lamenting that babies in her state are no longer vulnerable to murder in the womb, Darling claims \u201cwe should be putting pregnant women at ease, not putting their lives at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Louisiana\u2019s abortion ban doesn\u2019t stop pregnant women from getting the care they need, but that doesn\u2019t matter to the pro-abortion Darling, who seems willing to air anything to amplify her extreme views.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/morningconsult.com\/2022\/09\/21\/voters-divided-lindsey-graham-abortion-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A majority of U.S. voters<\/a> don\u2019t agree with legalizing abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, yet the top issue on Darling\u2019s campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.katie4louisiana.com\/issues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a> is codifying <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> (and indeed, going further than that). Darling was worried about Louisiana doctors not being able to provide proper care, should a complication arise in this pregnancy. While her first instinct was to flee, she decided instead to fight,\u201d Jezebel <a href=\"https:\/\/jezebel.com\/louisiana-house-candidate-literally-gives-birth-in-ad-l-1849610891?rev=1664827315555\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Despite the incredibly offputting nature of filming childbirth for a campaign ad, media like Jezebel celebrated the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/jezebel.com\/louisiana-house-candidate-literally-gives-birth-in-ad-l-1849610891?rev=1664827315555\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">historic<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/2022\/10\/04\/katie-darling-childbirth-viral-campaign-ad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">extraordinarily intimate, vulnerable family scene<\/a>\u201d and the pro-abortion message that came with it.<\/p>\n<p>When the Jezebel interviewer questioned why Darling would broadcast her birth to the world for political points, Darling defended her actions by claiming that sacrificing her privacy to promote abortion was worth it. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s at stake right now is just so much bigger than that,\u201d Darling said. \u201cI\u2019m not worried about what people think of me. I\u2019m more committed to making sure people are aware of what we need and standing up for our rights.\u00a0I want to see us codify\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u00a0and regain our reproductive rights,\u00a0and most importantly for folks who are involved in these abortions bans to reconsider how dangerous this legislation is. Reproductive rights are human rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Darling did not immediately respond to The Federalist\u2019s questions about whether she supports abortion up until birth. Nor did Darling answer whether she agrees with Stacey Abrams\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1572742298168958977\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claim<\/a>\u00a0that unborn babies at six weeks of gestation don\u2019t have heartbeats.<\/p>\n<p>Despite her nonresponse, it\u2019s no secret where Darling stands when it comes to abortion. Much like her Democrat allies, Darling brags about protecting women\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/katie4louisiana\/status\/1553482503553515520?s=20&amp;t=8qexdwzKn1YDT5TDTeDVyA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cright to choose,\u201d<\/a> even if that means ending the lives of unborn babies like her son in the womb. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><\/figure>\n<p>Thanks to Louisiana\u2019s current laws, so many babies like Darling\u2019s little boy have a chance at life outside of the womb.
