Ron DeSantis and his administration took credit for flying nearly 50 illegal border-crossers on a charter plane to Martha\u2019s Vineyard, Massachusetts, in mid-September, Democrats and their allies in the corrupt corporate media freaked out. <\/p>\n<p>They called the flight <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepDylan\/status\/1570205804720001026?utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cevil,\u201d\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CurtisHouck\/status\/1570450431402278915?s=20&amp;t=5mrRPsazxsKptJFl2n4PNw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cinhumane,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NydiaVelazquez\/status\/1570409491883036672?s=20&amp;t=5mrRPsazxsKptJFl2n4PNw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cdisgusting,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MiaFarrow\/status\/1570414236135985153?s=20&amp;t=5mrRPsazxsKptJFl2n4PNw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201ccruel\u201d<\/a>\u00a0thing to do and demanded DeSantis answer for the \u201cblonde woman\u201d called \u201cPerla\u201d whom migrants in San Antonio, Texas, reportedly claimed had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/10\/03\/migrants-marthas-vineyard-desantis-perla-report\/8168050001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201ctricked\u201d<\/a> them into taking the long trip North.<\/p>\n<p>Immigration lawyers who jumped at the opportunity to represent the migrants called the flight an act of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/migrants-flown-marthas-vineyard-were-kidnapped-immigration-attorney-1743508\">\u201ckidnapping\u201d<\/a> to an undisclosed destination orchestrated by DeSantis. NPR reported that migrants were \u201clured\u201d into boarding the plane because Perla told them they were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/09\/15\/1123109768\/migrants-sent-to-marthas-vineyard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">going to Boston<\/a> where \u201cexpedited work papers\u201d were waiting for them.<\/p>\n<p>According to The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/09\/25\/desantis-perla-migrant-flight-marthas-vineyard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Washington Post<\/a>, Perla, decked out in a cowboy hat and riding around in a \u201crented white SUV,\u201d coerced migrants into making the journey with the promise of \u201cfood, jobs and transportation.\u201d The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/search?query=martha%E2%80%99s+vineyard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Times<\/a> said this Perla woman likely \u201cmisled\u201d migrants to the point of breaking the law. <\/p>\n<p>One blogger even claimed that the informative brochure given to migrants, which outlined Massachusetts and Martha\u2019s Vineyard migrant assistance programs, was a <a href=\"https:\/\/popular.info\/p\/the-smoking-gun-in-marthas-vineyard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201csmoking gun\u201d<\/a> that indicated DeSantis is potentially guilty of a crime. Federalist Senior Editor John Daniel Davidson quickly <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/20\/sorry-theres-no-smoking-gun-in-marthas-vineyard-just-a-lot-of-left-wing-condescension\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">debunked this claim<\/a>, but it still got tens of thousands of likes and shares on social media. <\/p>\n<p>Shortly after these reports made their rounds,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/09\/16\/desantis-migrants-marthas-vineyard-00057300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several Democrats including California Gov. Gavin Newsom<\/a>\u00a0asked the Department of Justice to investigate red states such as Florida and Texas for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/katv.com\/news\/nation-world\/florida-official-wants-ron-desantis-investigated-for-political-human-trafficking-marthas-vineyard-nikkie-fried-department-of-justice-immigration-sanctuary-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201ctrafficking\u201d<\/a>\u00a0migrants against their will. U.S. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco all but confirmed in an interview <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/videos\/2022-09-16\/balance-of-power-full-show-09-16-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">with Bloomberg<\/a> that her agency would eventually get involved. Other Democrats including Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar in Texas pledged a full criminal investigation into the matter. <\/p>\n<p>Fast forward a few weeks to Sunday, Oct. 2, when The <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20221003025708\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/10\/02\/us\/migrants-marthas-vineyard-desantis-texas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Times<\/a> published an article identifying the mysterious \u201cPerla\u201d who talked to migrants in San Antonio as Perla Huerta, an alleged former combat medic and counterintelligence agent who now resides in Tampa, Florida. Buried more than two dozen paragraphs into the NYT article is a quiet confirmation that, regardless of Perla, the migrants not only agreed to get on the plane voluntarily but that they knew their final destination was the wealthy East Coast island of Martha\u2019s Vineyard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe migrants each received a red folder containing a map of the United States, with an arrow stretching from Texas to Massachusetts. Another map in the shape of Martha\u2019s Vineyard had a dot for the airport and one for the community services center,\u201d the New York Times story states.<\/p>\n<p>Using information from \u201ca person briefed on the San Antonio sheriff\u2019s office investigation,\u201d the Times affirmed what DeSantis and his office had <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/3651492-desantis-migrants-flights-to-marthas-vineyard-clearly-voluntary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed all along<\/a>: These illegal border-crossers knew where they were going when they boarded the plane to Martha\u2019s Vineyard. And they did so of their own will. <\/p>\n<p>Suddenly, everything the press tried to convince the public was illegal about the DeSantis-facilitated domestic flight was proven wrong.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not surprising, given their history of brazen lying in the service of Democrat narratives, that the corporate media readily bought into and peddled a hoax fed to them by dozens of immigration lawyers with fiery rhetoric. The worst part about this Perla arc is that most of it was wrong from the very beginning. <\/p>\n<p>Effectively buried in the press\u2019s panicked coverage of the Perla narrative was a quote at the bottom of a Texas Tribune article from one of the migrants. Eduardo Linares told the Tribune that, after allegedly hearing Perla\u2019s pitch, he <em>voluntarily decided<\/em> <em>not<\/em> to get on the plane. The article also noted that Perla was offering \u201ca free trip to islands off the coast of Massachusetts,\u201d not Boston.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple publications including The Boston Globe amplified Linares\u2019s quotes about being lied to by the blonde woman. But the migrant\u2019s acknowledgment in the same Tribune article that \u201che is second-guessing whether he should have gone, too\u201d after hearing that the other migrants who flew to Martha\u2019s Vineyard were faring well is predictably missing from those accounts.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve heard \u2026 from people that say they are good, they\u2019re working and they\u2019re good,\u201d Linares told The Texas Tribune. <\/p>\n<p>Additional evidence the media ignored while it fabricated an alternative narrative about migrants being \u201ctricked\u201d included this account from a Telemundo reporter who said the illegal border-crossers who did take the trip to Martha\u2019s Vineyard considered themselves the \u201clucky ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can tell you, they\u2019re not angry at Ron DeSantis,\u201d Telemundo\u2019s\u00a0Cristina Londo\u00f1o Rooney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-11221287\/Telemundo-reporter-says-migrants-flown-Marthas-Vineyard-Ron-DeSantis-glad.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> MSNBC. \u201cThey are actually thanking him for having brought them to Martha\u2019s Vineyard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even The Martha\u2019s Vineyard Times talked to a migrant who <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220921124525\/https:\/\/www.mvtimes.com\/2022\/09\/14\/migrant-workers-land-vineyard-via-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>, through an interpreter, \u201cthat they wanted to come to the Island and are seeking employment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>None of this mattered to the corporate media, which were salivating at the chance to blast DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>The same media outlets that <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/15\/left-wingers-melt-down-over-diversity-brought-to-marthas-vineyard-as-migrant-sanctuary\/\">accused<\/a> DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott of using migrants as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2022\/10\/03\/when-migrants-become-political-pawns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cpolitical pawns\u201d<\/a> by shipping them to blue states and cities twisted the facts, deliberately omitted them, and straight up lied about the events that led up to that famous Martha\u2019s Vineyard flight.
