Doug Ducey, a Republican who signed the law over the summer, said: \u201cPublic education is about educating the public. Now every child in Arizona will have access to a high-quality school of their choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Save Our Schools had said that they handed in more than 141,000 signatures.<\/p>\n<p>Secretaries of state perform a review of signatures for referendum proposals to verify which ones meet certain standards.<\/p>\n<p>Save Our Schools, responding to Hobbs\u2019 announcement, said that the discrepancy stemmed from several factors, including \u201cthe incredibly high volume of returns of petitions in the final week, days, and hours of the campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The development was a \u201cdevastating blow,\u201d the committee said.<\/p>\n<p>The group blamed Ducey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are confident we would have succeeded had Governor Ducey not waited 10 days to sign the bill, robbing Arizona voters of crucial time to sign the petition,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The Goldwater Institute, which had questioned some of the signatures, said that the failure to get the proposal on the 2024 ballot was\u00a0\u201ca vindication of parents who are clamoring for choice in education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> The Law <\/p>\n<p>House Bill 2853, the law, expands a school choice program called the\u00a0Empowerment Scholarship Account Program.<\/p>\n<p>The law removes restrictions for each student to receive $7,000 annually for education.
