McMaster has said that former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a> did not appear to mishandle classified information during his time there, as the Department of Justice (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-doj\">DOJ<\/a>) continues its investigation into the former president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were systems in place. I don\u2019t know what happened to those systems, but I was never uncomfortable with it while I was there,\u201d McMaster told CBS News\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation\u201d on Sunday.\u00a0\u201cWhile I was there, I did not see any problems in handling of classified information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McMaster, a retired general, served as one of Trump\u2019s top advisers from 2017 to 2018.\u00a0On Sunday, he said he wasn\u2019t aware of any issues regarding how the Trump White House handled documents.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI raided Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago residence in August and took boxes of documents, including materials that were allegedly marked \u201cclassified\u201d and \u201ctop secret.\u201d On social media, Trump has said that he declassified the documents while president and added in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trump-says-he-could-declassify-documents-by-thinking-about-it_4747627.html\">later interview<\/a> that he had broad declassification powers while he was in office.<\/p>\n<p>In court filings, the DOJ launched an investigation into Trump\u2019s handling of the materials after the National Archives indicated that some recovered documents were classified earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>A Florida district judge sided with Trump\u2019s lawyers in his bid to obtain a special master to review the materials that were taken during the raid while ordering a halt to the DOJ\u2019s investigation of the materials. But the DOJ appealed that order and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals <a href=\"https:\/\/docs-cdn-prod.news-engineering.aws.wapo.pub\/publish_document\/dd14f429-6a6e-47a1-9059-6190db2df638\/published\/dd14f429-6a6e-47a1-9059-6190db2df638.pdf\">ruled<\/a> last month that the DOJ can continue to use the Mar-a-Lago documents.<\/p>\n<p> New Filing <\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 30, the DOJ\u00a0moved to expedite its appeal of an order appointing a special master and said its inability to access the non-classified documents is still hampering significant aspects of its investigation on the retention of government records<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Trump administration adviser H.R.
