In September, 2020, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov\/briefings-statements\/remarks-president-trump-judicial-appointments\/\">included<\/a> Ho on a list of potential Supreme Court nominees.<\/p>\n<p>The judge mentioned several recent incidents at Yale Law, including one where more than 100 students <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/hundreds-of-yale-law-students-disrupt-bipartisan-free-speech-event\/\">tried to shout down<\/a> a bipartisan panel on civil liberties, and police were called to escort the panelists from the building.<\/p>\n<p>In another incident, Yale Law administrators <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/campus\/a-yale-law-student-sent-a-lighthearted-email-inviting-classmates-to-his-trap-house-the-school-is-now-calling-him-to-account\/\">pressured<\/a> a student for weeks to apologize for a \u201ctriggering\u201d email in which he referred to his apartment as a \u201ctrap house.\u201d The administrators said that the email was \u201ctriggering\u201d in part because the student was a member of a conservative organization.<\/p>\n<p>Ho has previously voiced his spirited criticism of censorship at other elite schools, including Georgetown.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Ho defended legal scholar Ilya Shapiro after Shapiro was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/06\/us\/georgetown-ilya-shapiro.html\">suspended<\/a> and\u00a0investigated over a series of tweets before he could take\u00a0his new job as a senior lecturer and executive director at Georgetown University\u2019s Center for the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro had tweeted that D.C.-based federal judge Sri Srinivasan was the best Supreme Court pick for Biden, but he \u201cdoesn\u2019t fit into the latest intersectionality hierarchy so we\u2019ll get lesser black woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ho defended the substance of Shapiro\u2019s tweets, saying any perceived racial discrimination does not come from Shapiro.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake no mistake: If there is any racial discrimination in statements like these, it\u2019s not coming from the speaker \u2014 it\u2019s coming from the policy that the speaker is criticizing,\u201d the judge <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/njhochman\/status\/1493645855139807232\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Ilya Shapiro is deserving of cancellation, then you should cancel me too,\u201d Ho <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/njhochman\/status\/1493643104792023046\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ho\u2019s conservative interpretation of the Constitution has been evident in several of his judicial rulings.<\/p>\n<p>In one of his judicial opinions, the conservative judge said that the current U.S. government \u201cwould be unrecognizable to our Founders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ho wrote in another opinion that bishops have the right to \u201cexpress their profound objection to the moral tragedy of abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his speech Thursday, Ho suggested judges might still be able to influence campus culture by taking action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re not just citizens,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/njhochman\/status\/1575531330670149639\">said<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re also customers \u2026 I wonder how a law school would feel, if my fellow federal judges and I stopped being its customers.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A federal judge said he will no longer hire clerks from Yale Law School and urged other judges to do the same.
