The position is inside the State Department, which is part of the Executive Branch.<\/p>\n<p>Medina is married to Ronald Klain, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-white-house\">White House<\/a> chief of staff.<\/p>\n<p>Federal law <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/5\/3110\">prohibits<\/a> public officials from advocating for employment or promotion in an agency in which they are serving, or in an agency in which they exercise authority.<\/p>\n<p>If a person is found to be appointed or promoted in violation of the law, the Treasury Department must withhold pay from the person.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it all boils down to a question of fact: did Ronald Klain advocate for his wife to get this job? And if he did, under this statute, I think she\u2019s disqualified,\u201d Richard Painter, a professor of corporate law at the University of Minnesota and the chief ethics lawyer during the George W. Bush administration, told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>Klain could not be reached for comment. The White House did not return an inquiry. The State Department did not respond to a request for comment. An inquiry to Medina was not returned.<\/p>\n<p>The Epoch Times has submitted a Freedom of Information Act to see if Klain or other White House officials were in communication with State Department officials about his wife before the appointment was announced.<\/p>\n<p>Medina helped found Our Daily Planet, which describes itself as \u201cthe leading independent environmental news platform covering the climate crisis, conservation, and beyond.\u201d She was already working as an assistant secretary at the State Department.<\/p>\n<p>In a public statement, Medina said she was \u201cdeeply honored\u201d to be<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The wife of a top Biden administration official was named this week to a new ambassador post, raising questions about whether the official helped secure her the job.
