He noted that Jenkins\u2019 congressional campaign has been \u201cusing a logo highly similar to and likely to be confused with Wawa\u2019s well-known goose logo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jenkins\u2019 campaign logo showcases two geese near his first and last name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, it appears that the geese used in your campaign\u2019s logo are identical to Wawa\u2019s earlier goose logo,\u201d Panzer wrote.<\/p>\n<p>When Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/09\/29\/wawa-nj-house-candidate-ripped-off-goose-logo-00059463\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> the similarities between both logos, Jenkin\u2019s responded that the Wawa symbol represents \u201ca lot of people in our district.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we launched this race to replace Chris Smith, I wanted our logo to feel instantly familiar,\u201d Jenkins tweeted. However, the New Jersey politician would later dispute to Politico that his logo was \u201cinspired\u201d by Wawa, adding on Tuesday that it was just a \u201ccoincidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">For a lot of people in our district, Wawa represents them. When we launched this race to replace Chris Smith, I wanted our logo to feel instantly familiar.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matt Jenkins for Congress (@MattJenkinsNJ) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MattJenkinsNJ\/status\/1574760202452303884?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 27, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before a friend of Jenkins pointed out his campaign logo resembled the convenience store, he allegedly told Politico in a phone interview that the logo was one of a dozen designs his campaign team created and did not make the connection with Wawa.<\/p>\n<p>Wawa currently has more than 800 locations in the region.<\/p>\n<p>A Wawa lobbyist had then told Jenkins to \u201cdiscretely\u201d stop using the geese for his campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Panzer said it gives an impression that Wawa has an association or sponsorship with his campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd as you stated in your Tweets \u2026 the use of the Wawa Goose in your campaign\u2019s logo is immediately familiar because of Wawa\u2019s notoriety among the people of New Jersey,\u201d Panzer wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Jenkins allegedly admitted Thursday that both logos are identical, but did not specify if he would change it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the letter it says this was an old trademark \u2026 \u2018formerly registered,\u2019\u201d Jenkins said, according to Politico. \u201cThis is going to cost me money to change. Everybody knows my finances. I don\u2019t have any. To go out and reprint my signs, all my literature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jenkins said he called his team, who allegedly believes his congressional race opponent, Rep. Smith, may have ousted him to Wawa \u2014 although he admitted he has no evidence to support the claim.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Panzer \u201ckindly\u201d requested that Jenkins and his team immediately cease and desist from using the Wawa goose logo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we appreciate your affinity for Wawa and your recognition of its special relationship with the people of New Jersey, failure of Wawa to enforce the exclusivity of its marks could have a diluting effect on the value of our client\u2019s mark and accordingly requires that we stop any unauthorized use of those marks or marks confusingly similar thereto,\u201d Panzer wrote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A New Jersey Democrat congressional candidate seeking to unseat a 42-year Republican representative ruffled a few feathers after Wawa accused the politician of stealing the convenience store\u2019s goose logo.
