I think it is about people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Medina currently serves in the State Department as assistant secretary for oceans and international environmental and scientific affairs. She is an outspoken proponent of the <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/ocasio-cortez-blames-anonymous-staffer-for-widely-mocked-green-new-deal-faq-rollout\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Green New Deal<\/a>, a controversial legislative proposal sponsored by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) that would cost roughly $9 trillion to implement but would have a <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/issues\/report-green-new-deal-would-have-no-effect-on-climate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negligible effect<\/a> on\u00a0global temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Green New Deal is a unifying political message that gets back to the basics of creating an economy that works for all people and protects the planet as a result,&#8221; Medina <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/opinion-2020-democrats-climate-change_n_5c378db0e4b0c469d76c3538\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> in January 2019.
