With winds exceeding 150 miles per hour, the storm was tied for the fourth-strongest hurricane to ever hit the Sunshine State, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/philklotzbach\/status\/1575204991488299010?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1575204991488299010%7Ctwgr%5Ece820ce40e8433581c5d655e7582e860e3dc2457%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Fbreaking-hurricane-ian-slams-into-florida-as-powerful-category-4-hurricane\">data<\/a> from Colorado State University meteorologist Philip Klotzbach. As of Thursday morning, however, winds had weakened to 65 miles per hour and rendered the system a tropical storm.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/text\/refresh\/MIATCDAT4+shtml\/291500.shtml\">forecast<\/a> from the National Hurricane Center, the storm has remained more powerful than initial estimates. \u201cIan has stubbornly gone east of the track forecast for the past couple of days and has moved back over water faster than expected,\u201d the agency said. \u201cA mid-level shortwave rough moving southward across the southern United States should turn Ian northward overnight and north-northwestward on Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Because Ian is now expected to move over the Gulf Stream for a longer duration, the storm will be able to maintain its central convection, while an \u201cincreased pressure gradient on the northwestern side from a stationary front\u201d near the southeastern United States will increase wind speeds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now expect Ian to become a hurricane again by this evening,\u201d the agency continued. \u201cIt is worth noting that Ian is forecast to have atypical structure when it nears the southeastern United States, and strong winds will extend well ahead of the center, even on the northwestern side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The National Hurricane Center, therefore, issued a hurricane warning for the entire coast of South Carolina and added that \u201cthere is a danger of life-threatening storm surge\u201d through Friday in northeastern Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple regions of the Sunshine State over which the storm has passed \u2014 including Hardee County, DeSoto County, and Lee County \u2014 are experiencing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/millions-left-without-power-as-hurricane-ian-devastates-florida\">power outage rates<\/a> approaching 100%. Most outages are concentrated in central Florida, with minimal outages in the western portion of the state and some outages in the Miami area. More than 2.5 million people in Florida were left without power on Thursday morning as utility companies began work to repair the state\u2019s electrical grid.<\/p>\n<p>The city of Naples \u2014 located in Collier County, where most residents are also without power \u2014 issued a boil water notice \u201cout of an abundance of caution\u201d amid systemwide water pressure problems. \u201cIt is advised that all water used for drinking and cooking be brought to a rolling boil for one minute,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CityofNaplesFireRescue\/posts\/pfbid0UssuAgVELb9YzTD4DarmkMZ39VDKNcd4JBTfURMVim4TEWQXhGtenksyrthNwdaml\">statement<\/a> said. \u201cOr, as an alternative, bottled water may be used.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/time-to-hunker-down-ron-desantis-warns-floridians-in-immediate-path-of-hurricane\">issued a warning<\/a> to residents who had not yet evacuated as of Wednesday morning. \u201cIt\u2019s time to hunker down and prepare for this storm,\u201d he advised. \u201cDo what you need to do to stay safe. If you are where that storm is approaching, you\u2019re already in hazardous conditions. It\u2019s going to get a lot worse very quickly.
