Severely lacking from the media coverage of record-high fentanyl overdoses, however, is honesty about what exactly is causing streams of the dangerous substance to enter the U.S. unnoticed: President Joe Biden\u2019s unsecured border.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdin\/pr\/us-attorney-s-office-and-department-justice-announce-results-efforts-reduce-fentanyl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced on Wednesday<\/a> that the Drug Enforcement Administration \u201cseized more than 10.2 million fentanyl pills and approximately 980 pounds of fentanyl powder during the period of May 23 through Sept. 8, 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is enough to kill 36 million Americans,\u201d Attorney General Merrick Garland <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/doj-seizes-10-million-fake-fentanyl-laced-pills\/story?id=90622962\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> at a press conference.<\/p>\n<p>Health departments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.wisconsin.gov\/opioids\/ph-advisory.htm#:~:text=Over%20the%20last%20year%2C%20synthetic,)%20to%202021%20(1%2C280).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/stateofreform.com\/featured\/2022\/06\/austin-declares-drug-overdose-deaths-a-public-health-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">around<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/kingcounty.gov\/council\/mainnews\/July\/7-19-fentanyl-public-health-crisis-declaration.aspx\">the<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/19_0424_s1_opioid-fact-sheet_v2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">country<\/a> have declared the rapid rise in fentanyl deaths a public health crisis. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Brian Hurley, the medical director of the Substance Abuse Prevention and Control division of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/jitySoRZvVM?t=131\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned<\/a> fentanyl is now the culprit of the \u201cworst overdose epidemic in United States history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Press coverage of this latest opioid crisis development has largely focused on how Americans are losing their children, brothers, sisters, and friends to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CBSNews\/status\/1575092964300361731\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rainbow-colored pills<\/a> that resemble candy. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cShe thought she was taking a prescription drug that gets prescribed to people from doctors. So to her, that her friends were doing it, well, it comes from a doctor so you know, should be OK on that and not knowing that it was laced with fentanyl,\u201d Silvia Martinez, a Wichita Falls, Texas, mom whose 19-year-old daughter died of a fentanyl overdose, told <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/GMA\/Wellness\/mom-speaks-daughter-dies-suspected-fentanyl-overdose\/story?id=90321883\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cGood Morning America.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Martinez\u2019s story, unfortunately, is not uncommon. Fentanyl was responsible for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/pressroom\/nchs_press_releases\/2022\/202205.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the most drug overdose deaths<\/a> in the U.S., more than 71,000, in 2021 and continues to play a large role in the drug-related deaths Americans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=fentanyl+overdose&amp;rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS909US910&amp;biw=1439&amp;bih=694&amp;tbm=nws&amp;sxsrf=ALiCzsb_FfQosvWXEaXmNsggwfozu4CZRw%3A1664387994934&amp;ei=mos0Y4y8OKOrqtsP_dea2Ac&amp;ved=0ahUKEwiM8dK5iLj6AhWjlWoFHf2rBnsQ4dUDCA0&amp;uact=5&amp;oq=fentanyl+overdose&amp;gs_lcp=Cgxnd3Mtd2l6LW5ld3MQAzILCAAQgAQQsQMQgwEyDggAEIAEELEDEIMBEMcDMg4IABCABBCxAxCDARDHAzILCAAQgAQQsQMQxwMyDggAEIAEELEDEIMBEMcDMgsIABCxAxCDARDHAzIOCAAQgAQQsQMQgwEQxwMyDggAEIAEELEDEIMBEMcDMggIABCABBDHAzIICAAQgAQQxwM6DQgAELEDEIMBEMcDEEM6BwgAEMcDEANQmAFYiwpg6gpoAHAAeACAAXqIAdYGkgEDOS4xmAEAoAEBwAEB&amp;sclient=gws-wiz-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">see in articles every day<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>All of sudden, everyone wants to talk about the prevalence of fentanyl overdoses, especially accidental ones in Americans <a href=\"https:\/\/adai.uw.edu\/new-report-youth-fentanyl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">under 30 years old<\/a>, but no one wants to talk about the border crisis that\u2019s causing it.<\/p>\n<p>It is no secret that drug cartels are the primary means by which the illicit and fatal pills are making their way into Americans\u2019 hands. Even the DEA admits that the rise in fentanyl deaths in the U.S. is directly linked to cartel activity at the nation\u2019s southern border. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe men and women of the DEA are relentlessly working to stop the trafficking of rainbow fentanyl and defeat the Mexican drug cartels that are responsible for the vast majority of the fentanyl that is being trafficked in the United States,\u201d DEA Administrator Anne Milgram said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dea.gov\/press-releases\/2022\/08\/30\/dea-warns-brightly-colored-fentanyl-used-target-young-americans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The corporate media, DOJ, and DEA fail to admit, however, that it\u2019s under Biden\u2019s lax border policies that drug activity has only increased.<\/p>\n<p>In August alone, U.S. Customs and Border Protection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbp.gov\/newsroom\/stats\/drug-seizure-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seized more than 2,200 pounds<\/a> of fentanyl. That\u2019s the highest recorded fentanyl seizure total per month since CBP began tracking the data in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>More than 90 percent of those seizures were at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/blog\/fentanyl-smuggled-us-citizens-us-citizens-not-asylum-seekers#:~:text=U.S.%20Citizens%20Bring%20Fentanyl%20Through%20Legal%20Crossing%20Points&amp;text=Over%2090%20percent%20of%20fentanyl%20border%20seizures%20occur%20at%20legal,%E2%80%9Cpotentially%20removable%E2%80%9D%20immigrants).\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201clegal border crossings and interior vehicle checkpoints.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0In addition to what authorities do catch, more of the fentanyl entering the U.S. at alarming rates is likely being smuggled over by people who evade apprehension by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/immigration\/migrant-surge-overwhelms-border-patrol-shelters-el-paso-rcna47588\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overwhelmed and frustrated border officials<\/a>\u00a0via covert passageways and illegal crossings.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Biden\u2019s dismantling of the Trump administration\u2019s border security measures and the White House\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/14\/everyone-knows-the-southern-border-is-worse-under-biden-than-trump-but-karine-jean-pierre-is-lying-anyway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">continued reluctance<\/a> to admit its role in the border crisis, cartels are emboldened to not only continue their drug operations but expand their black market influence further.<\/p>\n<p>As Federalist Senior Editor John Daniel Davidson <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/23\/the-border-crisis-is-just-the-tip-of-the-iceberg-in-mexico-a-cartel-crisis-looms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently reported<\/a>, these criminal organizations have begun \u201ca gradual takeover of the Mexican state\u201d which includes becoming involved in \u201cindustrial agriculture, port operations, migrant smuggling, human trafficking, and even\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/4ax479\/mexico-sinaloa-cartel-water\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the control and distribution of water<\/a>\u00a0in drought-stricken parts of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the corporate media and Democrats conveniently gloss over the role the Biden administration plays in encouraging this vast criminal enterprise. <\/p>\n<p>Just this week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer warned that \u201crainbow fentanyl\u201d targeted at young Americans is \u201creally worrisome and really dangerous.\u201d As a result, Schumer is asking for <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/09\/25\/sen-chuck-schumer-wants-290m-to-help-fight-deadly-rainbow-fentanyl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$290 million<\/a> in taxpayer dollars to go towards overdose response teams across the country. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"TjZH6np7fqMA58PJ1BauGvQDUyWo9YNg\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Democrats\u2019 open border agenda has fueled a rise in deaths from fentanyl, and now cartels are using \u201crainbow fentanyl\u201d to target kids. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jimmykimmel?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@jimmykimmel<\/a> mocked me for saying moms are concerned about it ahead of Halloween. <\/p>\n<p>Is he going to criticize Schumer now? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iIUoka8NRG\">pic.twitter.com\/iIUoka8NRG<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GOPChairwoman\/status\/1574967032977694725?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 28, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Instead of addressing the border-induced drug crisis\u2019s root causes, something Biden\u2019s border czar Vice President Kamala Harris <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/06\/10\/the-root-causes-of-the-migrant-crisis-are-bidens-border-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claims to know something about<\/a>, Schumer wants to pour millions into a temporary fix. <\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no denying that the ubiquity of fentanyl is a cause for concern but until the Biden administration, Congress, and federal agencies get serious about securing the border, the U.S. is doomed to a raging and deadly drug crisis that has no end. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
