Russia severed shipments through Nord Stream 1 a month ago, while Germany blocked the adjacent Nord Stream 2 from beginning shipments immediately before the invasion. Sweden and Denmark <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nord-stream-pipelines-see-unprecedented-damage-after-cia-warned-german-government-of-sabotage\">reported<\/a> two leaks in Nord Stream 1 and one leak in Nord Stream 2 on Monday, while the system\u2019s operator confirmed that the destruction was \u201cunprecedented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In June, the U.S. Navy <a href=\"https:\/\/sfn.nato.int\/newsroom\/news-archive\/2022\/baltops-22-a-perfect-opportunity-for-research-and-testing-new-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joined<\/a> other NATO members for BALTOPS 22, a series of maritime exercises in the Baltic Sea near the Danish island of Bornholm \u2014 the location of the Nord Stream pipeline leaks. Among other initiatives, scientists from five nations tested unmanned underwater mine hunting technology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBALTOPS, with the high degree of complexity, tested our collective readiness and adaptability, while also highlighting the strength of our Alliance and resolve in providing a maritime domain with freedom of navigation for all,\u201d Vice Admiral Gene Black said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/Press-Office\/News-Stories\/Article\/3066830\/baltops-22-the-premier-baltic-sea-maritime-exercise-concludes-in-kiel\/\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While some European officials suspect Russia may have destroyed its own pipelines to increase gas prices, others have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/tucker-carlson-fuels-suspicion-u-s-behind-nord-stream-sabotage\">blamed<\/a> the United States for the damage, which is causing natural gas to spew toward the surface. Disabling the pipelines would remove the possibility of Germany nixing sanctions against Russia in time to import energy for the winter.<\/p>\n<p>Radoslaw Sikorski, a Polish member of European Parliament, commented on social media that the United States was responsible for the destruction \u2014 a claim that earned him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/poland-slams-politician-who-suggested-u-s-blew-up-pipelines-what-an-act-of-gross-irresponsibility\">rebukes<\/a> from Polish Secretary of State Stanislaw Zaryn. \u201cThere\u2019s no shortage of pipeline capacity for taking gas from Russia to Western Europe, including Germany,\u201d Sikorski had claimed, adding that the \u201conly logic\u201d behind the pipeline system \u201cwas for Putin to be able to blackmail or wage war on Eastern Europe with impunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, footage of President Joe Biden threatening to oppose the Nord Stream 2 pipeline days before the beginning of the war <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Partisangirl\/status\/1574685985115607040?s=20&amp;t=exDoFSWQyGXDG_Cpl8TgOQ\">resurfaced<\/a> on social media. The commander-in-chief had initially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-sanctions-russian-owned-company-behind-nord-stream-2-pipeline\">waived<\/a> sanctions against the Russian-owned company behind Nord Stream 2, although he reimposed sanctions shortly before the conflict began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Russia invades, that means tanks or troops crossing the border of Ukraine again, there will no longer be a Nord Stream 2,\u201d Biden said. \u201cWe will bring an end to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After a reporter pressed him, Biden responded: \u201cI promise you \u2014 we will be able to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the possibility of Russian sabotage, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters \u201cno option can be ruled out\u201d at the moment. \u201cThis is a very concerning news. Indeed, we are talking about some damage of an unclear nature to the pipeline in Denmark\u2019s economic zone,\u201d Peskov said. \u201cThis is an issue related to the energy security of the entire continent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/cia-warned-berlin-about-possible-attacks-gas-pipelines-summer-spiegel-2022-09-27\/\">report<\/a> from German news outlet Spiegel noted that the CIA had cautioned Germany about possible attacks on the pipelines weeks ago.
