Glenn Youngkin\u2019s newly proposed policies that acknowledge the biological sex of students and provide parents greater oversight of their children\u2019s lives at school.<\/p>\n<p>As The Federalist recently <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/20\/youngkins-crusade-to-get-radical-gender-theory-out-of-virginia-schools-puts-kids-and-families-first\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, the newly issued model policies by Virginia\u2019s Department of Education \u201cexplicitly state that students\u2019 participation in school programming and use of school facilities such as bathrooms or locker rooms should be based on their biological sex and that modifications should be offered only to the extent required under federal law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new guidelines also state that \u201cstudents who are minors must be referred to by the name and pronouns in their official records unless there is explicit parental approval for the use of something else\u201d and that \u201cschools may not conceal information about a student\u2019s so-called gender identity from his or her parents.\u201d Furthermore, \u201cparents must be given the opportunity to object before any gender-related counseling services are offered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In demonstrating their ignorance about the state\u2019s proposed policies, students participating in the walkouts have since issued blatantly false assertions about what the new protocols entail, with one person who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/nbc-out\/out-news\/students-stage-walkouts-virginia-governors-transgender-school-policies-rcna49594\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">purports<\/a> to be trans saying that the state was \u201ctrying to take away our rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow are we supposed to focus on our classes \u2014 like calculus or biology \u2014 if we\u2019re worried that our teachers are going to out us to our unsupportive parents?\u201d another student told NBC News.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/09\/27\/student-group-walkouts-virginia-funded-dem-donors-youngkin-transgender-guidance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Daily Caller<\/a>, the protests were organized by a group known as the Pride Liberation Project, which appears to be, at least in part, funded by \u201cthe Democratic donor hub, \u2018ActBlue.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPride Liberation Project\u2019s website was not created by students, according to an attribution at the bottom of the site. The website was donated by Z2B Media, which is owned by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/tylerjdbegley\/\">Tyler J.D. Begley<\/a>, an anti-Israel\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CRXhwKjsNG1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">activist<\/a>\u00a0who openly advocates for the Pride Liberation Project on his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tylerjdbegley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social media pages<\/a>,\u201d the report reads. \u201cBegley did not respond to the Daily Caller\u2019s inquiry into whether he creates the graphics featured on the \u2018student-led\u2019 social media pages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the fact that only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.virginiamercury.com\/2022\/09\/12\/despite-law-few-virginia-school-districts-adopt-state-model-transgender-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10 percent<\/a> of Virginia school boards had adopted former Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam\u2019s policies regarding transgenderism in schools, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2022\/sep\/27\/nearly-100-virginia-schools-hold-walkouts-over-rev\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allowed<\/a> \u201ctransgender students to use school facilities in accordance with their gender identity and required teachers to accept a transgender student\u2019s name and pronouns without parental consent,\u201d Democrats and their allies in legacy media have gone out of their way to lavish heaps of praise on the uninformed, protesting students and smear the new policies as \u201canti-trans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThousands Of Students In Virginia Hosted A Walkout Over New Anti-Trans School Policies,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/annabetts\/virginia-students-walkout-protest-anti-trans-policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BuzzFeed<\/a> headline reads.<\/p>\n<p>USA Today writers Cady Stanton and Alia Wong similarly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/education\/2022\/09\/27\/youngkin-transgender-school-policy-virginia-student-walkout\/8120594001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">complained<\/a> in dramatic fashion that the policies \u201cput decisions on students\u2019 identities and preferred names at school exclusively in the hands of their parents\u201d and also regurgitated talking points from leftists that \u201cthe changes put\u00a0LGBTQ youth in danger because it bans they\/them pronouns and\u00a0allows students to be deadnamed or misgendered.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>In a statement provided to The Federalist, Youngkin spokeswoman Macaulay Porter emphasized that the new guidelines are designed to provide parents with greater access to their children\u2019s school life, while adding that \u201cwhen parents are part of the process, schools will accommodate the requests of children and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents should be a part of their children\u2019s lives, and it\u2019s apparent through the public protests and on-camera interviews that those objecting to the guidance already have their parents as part of that conversation,\u201d she said. \u201cWhile students exercise their free speech \u2026 we\u2019d note that these policies state that students should be treated with compassion and schools should be free from bullying and harassment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, parents in Virginia counties such as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/27\/why-these-parents-students-and-protesters-are-standing-up-to-the-loudoun-county-school-board\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Loudoun<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whsv.com\/2021\/07\/02\/hundreds-show-up-speak-augusta-school-board-about-transgender-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Augusta<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wjhl.com\/news\/local\/wise-county-va-residents-rally-against-state-policy-on-transgender-students-in-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wise<\/a>, and others saw parents turn out in significant numbers to protest their school boards\u2019 consideration and implementation of various radical ideologies such as gender theory and critical race theory in their districts\u2019 curricula. And while America\u2019s corrupt, left-wing media covered Tuesday\u2019s student protests with fawning adoration, they conversely couldn\u2019t find similar passion to properly cover the concerns raised by Virginia parents over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>Not long after Youngkin\u2019s election victory last year, for instance, then-CNN host Brian Stelter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/stelter-panel-lectures-parents-wanting-to-get-involved-in-kids-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> during a segment on \u201cReliable Sources\u201d that terms such as \u201cparents\u2019 rights\u201d and \u201ccritical race theory\u201d are little more than \u201cslogan[s]\u201d or \u201ccatchall phrase[s].\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich parents?\u201d he <a href=\"http:\/\/Which parents?\" Stelter asked>asked<\/a>. \u201cWhose rights are we talking about?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taking a different approach, fellow CNN talking head and political analyst Natasha Alford contended that the 2021 Virginia gubernatorial election wasn\u2019t decided by the issue of parental rights, but skin color.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are America\u2019s issues with race and identity and the sort of this moral outrage that just gets repackaged for a new era,\u201d Alford said. <\/p>\n<p>Outlets such as <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fact-checking-634580066208\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a> also went out of their way to run cover for the National School Boards Association (NSBA), which in September of 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/thefdrlst.wpengine.com\/2021\/09\/30\/leftist-school-boards-association-begs-biden-to-use-domestic-terrorism-laws-to-target-concerned-parents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sent a letter<\/a> to the Biden administration asking that the federal government treat parents protesting their school districts\u2019 radical policies as domestic terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>The NSBA \u201cis not asking Biden to label parents who protest at school board meetings as terrorists,\u201d the AP \u201cfact-check\u201d claimed. \u201cThe NSBA asked the administration to do an interagency investigation of threats of violence against school board members and said the threats \u2018could be the equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NSBA has since <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/10\/23\/nsba-apologizes-for-working-with-biden-administration-to-target-parents-as-domestic-terrorists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">apologized<\/a> for issuing the letter, which Attorney General Merrick Garland used as a pretext to target parents.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Shawn Fleetwood is a Staff Writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
