Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Monday\u00a0highlighted the declining state of the economy under President Joe Biden and said he does not believe the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act is enough of an achievement to help\u00a0Democrats\u00a0run on in the midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p>Sanders made the comments during\u00a0Monday\u2019s broadcast of NBC\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbc.com\/late-night-with-seth-meyers\/video\/senator-bernie-sanders-chad-kroeger-jt-parr\/9000190274\">Late Night<\/a>\u201d where he noted large discrepancies between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-wages\">wages<\/a> and soaring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-inflation\">inflation<\/a> across the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we don\u2019t talk about in Congress, and we don\u2019t talk about in the media, is what\u2019s going on with working families in this country. And the truth is that the middle class of this country is falling further and further behind,\u201d Sanders said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWages are not keeping up with inflation. You\u2019ve got over 70 million people who have no health insurance or they\u2019re under-insured. You\u2019ve got 600,000 people who are homeless. You\u2019ve got people who can\u2019t afford prescription drugs. You\u2019ve got people\u2014kids can\u2019t afford to go to college. Kids are leaving school deeply in debt \u2026 not to mention climate change,\u201d Sanders said.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation has soared to 8.3 percent meaning the buying power of U.S. wages has been squeezed.<\/p>\n<p>Real average hourly earnings of U.S. workers have fallen by 2.8 percent, seasonally adjusted, over the last 12 months, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/realer.nr0.htm\">data<\/a>\u00a0from the\u00a0Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, BLS notes that \u201cthe change in real average hourly earnings combined with a decrease of 0.6 percent in the average workweek resulted in a 3.4-percent decrease in real average weekly earnings over this period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> \u2018In Rough Shape Right Now\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.bankofamerica.com\/content\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2022\/09\/bank-of-america-study-finds-84--of-employers-now-say-offering-fi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bank of America\u2019s Workplace Benefits Report<\/a>, published earlier in September,\u00a071 percent of workers said they feel that the cost of living is outpacing their salary or wage growth. The report is based on\u00a0a nationwide survey of 824 employees and 846 employers conducted in February, and a second survey of<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
