We\u2019re praying for the safety of all those in the storm\u2019s path,\u201d the panel said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Select Committee will soon announce a date for the postponed proceedings,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Hurricane Ian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/hurricane-ian-to-make-landfall-earlier-than-expected-as-2-5-million-evacuate-in-florida_4758383.html\">is forecast to make landfall in Florida<\/a> on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Millions of Florida residents have evacuated to try to avoid the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told a press conference that some areas will see \u201ccatastrophic flooding and life-threatening storm surge.\u201d The National Weather Service says \u201clife-threatening storm surge looks increasingly likely,\u201d with the areas most likely to see the impacts being from Fort Myers to the Tampa Bay region. High winds and heavy rain are also expected.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-Fla.), one of the Jan. 6 panel members, represents portions of Seminole and Orange counties. The hurricane is forecast to cause issues for those counties.<\/p>\n<p> Hearing <\/p>\n<p>The panel\u2019s hearing had been scheduled to take place at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/jan-6-committee-to-hold-final-hearing-on-sept-28_4744549.html\">told reporters<\/a> the hearing would probably be the final one.<\/p>\n<p>The midterm elections are set to take place in November. Many political experts believe Democrats will lose control of the House in the elections. Republicans have repeatedly criticized the panel\u2019s work and have signaled that they plan to focus on other matters if they flip the lower chamber, including the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The Jan. 6 panel was launched by Democrats in the House. The select committee only contains two Republicans,\u00a0Reps. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and\u00a0Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.).
