Ron DeSantis ahead of Hurricane Ian\u2019s impending landfall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the past, President Biden has made calls to [Republican] governors in situations like natural disasters, [such as] Kay Ivey in Alabama, Asa Hutchinson in Arkansas or the governor in Texas,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=1321722195030322\">reporter asked FEMA<\/a> chief Deanne Criswell on Tuesday who was standing alongside White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. \u201cCan you articulate how these determinations are made and why it hasn\u2019t been made in this case to have the president call the governor?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In response, Criswell did not say whether Biden, a Democrat, has spoken with DeSantis, a Republican ahead of Ian\u2019s landfall. The FEMA head said that she has spoken with DeSantis and her team is in contact constantly with the governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president is very focused on making sure the federal family has the right resources to support this,\u201d Criswell told reporters. \u201cThat is why I contacted the governor right away, and we have a team of my senior leadership embedded with the governor to make sure that we\u2019re supporting that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Criswell said the \u201cfocus today\u201d will be \u201cmaking sure that we have the right measures in place to support the lifesaving activities that need to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAgain, we have a strong team that\u2019s in place supporting the governor right now,\u201d Criswell also said in response to another question about whether Biden has spoken to DeSantis.<\/p>\n<p>The revelation that Biden has not yet spoken to DeSantis was made by\u00a0Jean-Pierre during a press briefing on Monday. When pressed by a reporter, the press secretary said there were no planned calls between the president and governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about the people of Florida. It\u2019s not about public officials, especially in this time.
