A <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/democratic-voters--dont-want-biden-2024-nominee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new poll from ABC News<\/a><\/u> and the <i>Washington Post <\/i>found that 56% of Democratic-registered voters and Democratic-leaning voters want another candidate to top the ticket in 2024. The same poll found that Republicans hold a 22-point advantage on handling crime. <\/p>\n<p>Biden himself has hit on the extremism issue Psaki outlined as a winner for Democrats. He&#8217;s made much in recent weeks of denouncing former President Donald Trump and &#8220;<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/biden-trump-maga-republicans-midterm-elections\">MAGA Republicans<\/a>,&#8221; most notably in a Philadelphia speech before an imposing red background and a pair of uniformed Marines. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There\u2019s no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans,&#8221; Biden <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/biden-trump-maga-republicans-midterm-elections\">said<\/a>. &#8220;And that is a threat to this country.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>This focus on Republicans, Carney argues, is evidence that Biden and the Democrats cannot run on their record in November. Otherwise, 8.3% inflation, a wobbly economy, and gas prices that are high and <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\">rising again<\/a> will be top of mind for voters. <\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about Psaki&#8217;s comments during Monday&#8217;s press briefing. After pointing to a rise in manufacturing jobs and lowered prescription drug prices, she turned toward the core issue. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I cannot talk about the midterms from here. What I can say is that we are going to go out there. &#8230; We are going to talk about how we have delivered for the American people,&#8221; she said, adding that the Inflation Reduction Act is &#8220;very popular with the American people, with Republicans and Democrats.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>But she also emphasized the distance between Democrats and Republicans, whom she accused of wanting to cut Medicare and raise prescription drug costs for seniors. <\/p>\n<p>Many Republicans say Democrats are now the ones talking about Trump and backing <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/democrats-throw-nearly-million-behind-trump-backed-candidate\">Trump-aligned<\/a> candidates because they see it as a winning midterm strategy. Democratic strategist Brad Bannon argues that Trump is responsible for inserting himself into the midterm conversation, as is the Supreme Court with its <i>Dobbs v. Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization <\/i>ruling overturning the constitutional right to abortion. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[Trump] made it a referendum on himself when he encouraged a failed coup and when he kept top-secret documents at Mar-a-Lago,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Trump made this a referendum on Trump.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Other prominent Democrats have not been as forthcoming as Psaki about Biden&#8217;s status with the public and the need to focus elsewhere, though figures ranging from House and Senate candidates to <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/bidens-not-talked-reelection\">first lady Jill Biden<\/a> have dodged the question of whether he should run again. <\/p>\n<p>Despite Psaki&#8217;s comments and Joe Biden&#8217;s still-low approval numbers, Bannon emphasized that Democrats are in a much stronger position going into November than they were just a few months ago. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The situation has turned out a lot less well for Republicans than they anticipated early in the year,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That&#8217;s because of two things. One is Trump&#8217;s refusal to leave the stage. It&#8217;s clear now that whatever is good for Donald Trump is bad for Republicans.
