From 1992 until his death of pancreatic cancer in 2016, Rickman churned out 26 volumes \u2014 some illustrated \u2014 which were condensed and curated into a book due out in October.<\/p>\n<p>The book, titled \u201cMadly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman,\u201d features a series of diary entries written by the actor \u2014 who played the role of potions-master Severus Snape throughout the film series based on <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/twitter-deletes-trans-activist-video-with-j-k-rowling-death-threat-after-initially-saying-it-didnt-violate-safety-policies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J.K. Rowling\u2019s<\/a> books \u2014 over the course of his decades-long career.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Alan Rickman, who brought Hogwarts potions master Severus Snape to life across eight \u201cHarry Potter\u201d films, wrote down his most unfiltered thoughts about the franchise \u2013 no veritaserum required. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iiFF3AYAk3\">https:\/\/t.co\/iiFF3AYAk3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 HuffPost (@HuffPost) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HuffPost\/status\/1574487945591115777?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 26, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the diaries, Rickman noted the day he \u201csaid yes to HP\u201d \u2014 August 23, 2000 \u2014 and the fact that he began reading the books shortly after accepting the role. He then detailed his initial costume fittings and his first conversation with Rowling about the role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-4iq4cq\"><strong>21 September<br \/><\/strong>HARRY P TAKES OFF.<br \/><em>10.30am<\/em> Car to costume fitting\/discussion. Measurements from hell after a month in Italy. Waltz around each other \u2013 higher collar? Blue fabric? Thinner arms? And off to Leavesden Studios. Chris Columbus [director], David Heyman [producer], Makeup dept waiting. Wig? Nose?<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-4iq4cq\"><strong>6 October<br \/><\/strong>First conversation with Joanne Rowling. Her sister answers \u2013 \u201cShe\u2019s not here \u2013 can I leave a message?\u201d [There is] cackling in the background \u2026 \u201cSorry about that! \u2026 \u201d [I tell her:] \u201cThere are things that only Snape &#038; you know \u2013 I need to know \u2026 \u201d \u201cYou\u2019re right [she replies] \u2013 call me tomorrow; no one else knows these things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/alan-rickmans-diary-reveals-what-he-really-thought-about-harry-potter-co-stars_n_6331bff8e4b0db74862d5da7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Other entries<\/a> detailed what he thought of specific actors he worked with \u2014 from complaints about their pronunciation (Emma Watson) to predicting that they might go on to direct (Daniel Radcliffe) \u2014 and of others who worked on the film series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still don\u2019t think he\u2019s really an actor but he will undoubtedly direct\/produce,\u201d Rickman said of Radcliffe, praising his as \u201csensitive, articulate, and smart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese kids need directing. They don\u2019t know their lines,\u201d he complained during the filming of the third movie, \u201cThe Prisoner of Azkaban.\u201d Of Emma Watson \u2014 who played Hermione Granger \u2014 he complained that her pronunciation was \u201cthis side of Albania at times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of the films, Rickman favored \u201cThe Prisoner of Azkaban\u201d \u2014 saying of director Alfonso Cuar\u00f3n\u2019s work, \u201cIt is a very grown-up movie, so full of daring that it made me smile and smile. Every frame of it is the work of an artist and storyteller.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His least favorite was the sixth film \u2014 \u201cThe Half-Blood Prince.\u201d He complained in one entry: \u201cThe desire to eat and even more get a drink is matched only by the need to bang the three Davids\u2019 heads against the nearest wall.
