In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifesitenews.com\/news\/fbi-raids-home-of-catholic-pro-life-speaker-author-with-guns-drawn-as-his-terrified-kids-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview<\/a> with LifeSiteNews, she described a SWAT-style raid with agents aiming guns at the house and surrounding it before \u201cthey started pounding on the door and yelling for us to open it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the father of seven answered the door, pleading with the agents to remember \u201cmy children are in the home,\u201d Ryan-Marie said the G-men \u201cjust kept pounding and screaming.\u201d Once Mark allowed them inside, \u201cthey had big, huge rifles pointed at Mark and pointed at me and kind of pointed throughout the house,\u201d his wife recalled. Their children, she added, \u201cwere all at the top of the stairs which faces the front door \u2026 just screaming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As LifeSiteNews reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>After asking them why they were at the house, the agents said they were there to arrest Mark. When Ryan-Marie asked for their warrant, \u2018they said that they were going to take him whether they had a warrant or not.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After Ryan-Marie protested, she said, the agents finally agreed to retrieve the warrant, then showed her one page \u201cand said they were taking him to \u2018the federal building in downtown Philadelphia.&#8217;\u201d Mark asked her to get his rosaries and a sweatshirt, she added, \u201cbut when she returned, they already had loaded him into a vehicle.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Pushing back on Ryan-Marie\u2019s testimony, an FBI Philadelphia spokesman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/pennsylvania-pro-life-activist-arrested-fbi-charged-assaulting-clinic-escort\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a>, \u201cNo SWAT Team or SWAT operators were involved\u201d but that the FBI \u201cknocked\u201d on the Houck\u2019s door. The person also denied that there were 25-plus agents involved and that guns were pointed at Houck\u2019s family, but admitted to agents having \u201cguns out and at the ready\u201d and to there being as many as 15-20 agents at the Houcks\u2019 home.<\/p>\n<p>If Houck is convicted, he could receive \u201ca maximum possible sentence of 11 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and fines of up to $350,000,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edpa\/pr\/bucks-county-man-indicted-federal-charges-assaulting-reproductive-healthcare-clinic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to a Justice Department press release. <\/p>\n<p>What was his crime?<\/p>\n<p>The arrest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/65371323\/5\/united-states-v-houck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warrant<\/a> shows Houck accused of \u201cattacking a patient escort\u201d at a Planned Parenthood facility in violation of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, a federal law used to restrict the actions of pro-life protesters and counselors in front of abortion facilities. Mark, who also runs a men\u2019s ministry devoted in part to rescuing men from pornography addictions, made a habit of driving two hours to Philadelphia every week to spend his Wednesdays speaking and counseling in front of the Planned Parenthood \u2013 Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center. <\/p>\n<p>His wife recalled that on several occasions when Mark took their then-12-year-old son to sidewalk counsel with him, a \u201cpro-abortion protester\u201d would say \u201ccrude \u2026 inappropriate and disgusting things\u201d to Mark\u2019s son, including \u201cyou dad\u2019s a f-g\u201d and other vulgarities Ryan-Marie couldn\u2019t bring herself to repeat. It went on \u201cfor weeks and weeks,\u201d despite Mark repeatedly telling the man to stop harassing his son. \u201cHe kept doing it and kind of came into [the son\u2019s] personal space,\u201d Ryan-Marie explained, at which point \u201cMark shoved him away from his child, and the guy fell back. He didn\u2019t have any injuries or anything, but he tried to sue Mark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The case against Mark was thrown out of the district court in Philadelphia earlier this year, LifeSiteNews reported, but the FBI picked it up as the federal agency continues to wage war on the administration\u2019s political opponents. Jacqueline C. Romero, the U.S. attorney whose signature is on Houck\u2019s indictment, is a Biden appointee whom the DOJ bragged is \u201cthe first woman of color and the first person to identify as LGBTQIA+ to lead the Office,\u201d as investigative journalist Julie Kelly <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/julie_kelly2\/status\/1574390562999791622\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pointed out<\/a> on Twitter. <\/p>\n<p>The indictment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/22924312-houck-indictment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shows<\/a> a grand jury decided to charge Mark with \u201cverbally confronting [the pro-abortion man] and forcefully shov[ing him] to the ground in front of the [Planned Parenthood Center], causing injuries \u2026 that required medical attention.\u201d Brian Middleton, a spokesman for the Houck family, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/252385\/mark-houck-fbi-arrest-abortion-clinic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">says<\/a> that \u201cmedical attention\u201d was merely \u201ca Band-Aid on his finger.\u201d A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/65371323\/7\/united-states-v-houck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">release order<\/a> reveals Mark was required to post $10,000 bond and is currently barred from returning to sidewalk counsel at the abortion center.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI\u2019s use of blatant intimidation and excessive force to target a pro-life leader comes after pro-abortion agitators spent months vandalizing and even <a href=\"https:\/\/downloads.frc.org\/EF\/EF22F17.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">firebombing<\/a> dozens of pro-life pregnancy resource centers and churches across the country. It took a month and a half and a pressure campaign from concerned congressional leaders and senators to get the FBI to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/17\/a-month-and-a-half-after-dobbs-leak-fbi-says-they-will-investigate-attacks-on-pro-life-groups-pregnancy-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">even<\/a> say it was \u201cinvestigating\u201d these attacks, but we have yet to see any SWAT-style raids like what the Houcks endured levied at firebombers whose criminal behavior advanced the regime\u2019s agenda. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Elle Purnell is an assistant editor at The Federalist, and received her B.A. in government from Patrick Henry College with a minor in journalism.
