The staff are charged with seeking to better understand the needs of communities with \u201cenvironmental justice concerns,\u201d as well as the needs of tribal, state, and local partners.<\/p>\n<p>The staff are also tasked with managing and disbursing \u201chistoric levels of grants and technical assistance,\u201d and working with other EPA offices \u201cto incorporate environmental justice into the agency\u2019s programs, policies, and processes, as allowed by law.\u201d They will also ensure that EPA funding recipients \u201ccomply with applicable civil rights laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president is expected to nominate an assistant administrator to lead the new office at a later date.
