Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez informed her social media followers that many Americans can no longer afford children because of the \u201cburdens of capitalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are quite a few countries that are really struggling because young people, under the burdens of capitalism \u2026 we\u2019re not having kids. Or we\u2019re not having kids at the same rate! And we actually need immigrant populations to help balance things out,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>While AOC is correct that the West is experiencing a profound underpopulation crisis, she\u2019s wrong about the reason. It is the left\u2019s insidious, century-long campaign to usher in a culture of death that is at the core of the underpopulation problem.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Demonization of Big Families<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>More than a hundred years ago, Margaret Sanger, who is the founder of Planned Parenthood (America\u2019s largest abortion provider), launched the birth control movement because she believed that the world was suffering from an overpopulation crisis. \u201cThe creators of over-population are the women, who, while wringing their hands over each fresh horror, submit anew to their task of producing the multitudes who will bring about the next tragedy of civilization,\u201d she claimed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sanger worked hard to change cultural perceptions of large families in order to promote birth control and fix the population \u201ccrisis.\u201d One of her favorite tactics was fearmongering women out of having many children.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo me, the distinction between happiness and unhappiness in childhood was one of small families and of large families rather than of wealth and poverty,\u201d wrote Sanger in her autobiography. \u201cLarge families associated with poverty, toil, unemployment, drunkenness, cruelty, fighting, jails; the small ones with cleanliness, leisure, freedom, light, space, sunshine.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sanger <a href=\"https:\/\/librarypartnerspress.pressbooks.pub\/gendersexuality1e\/chapter\/margaret-sangers-debate-on-birth-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> large families tend to produce \u201cunwanted and undesired children\u201d and perpetuate \u201cpoverty, misery, disease, overcrowding, congestion, child labor, infant mortality, [and] maternal mortality.\u201d Ultimately, as Sanger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/files\/54599\/54599-h\/54599-h.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> in \u201cThe Case For Birth Control,\u201d it would be\u201c[b]etter a single child properly reared by a happy contented mother than a dozen ill-fed, unkempt, dirty, vicious and half-baked hoodlums.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Modern population control activists share Sanger\u2019s abhorrence of large families. Estranged ex-royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are among the most notable of the many young couples vowing to limit their families in the name of \u201cclimate change.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Sanger was more concerned with the economic ramifications of \u201coverpopulation,\u201d she and today\u2019s leftists agree in several key areas. Both claim they want to empower women and promote human rights, and both maintain that too many children will lead to the destruction of mankind.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0recent <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3918955\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study<\/a> found that 39 percent of young people said they were \u201chesitant to have children\u201d because of climate change. But climate change fears aren\u2019t the only reason young people feel ambivalent and even hostile toward the idea of having a big family.\u00a0As Sanger\u2019s rhetoric makes clear, the demonization of large families far predates Harry and Meghan. Indeed, the numbers reflect a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1033027\/fertility-rate-us-1800-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">decades-long decline<\/a> in birth rates.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Getting Rid of the \u2018Undesirables\u2019\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Margaret Sanger was a eugenicist, classist, ableist, and racist. Her goal to rid the world of\u00a0\u201cundesirables\u201d is being carried out through the hundreds of thousands of abortions that take place every year.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret Sanger declared that \u201cWomen of the working class, especially wage workers, should not have more than two children at most.\u201d She believed that parents with many children were incapable of investing adequate time and money to raise them properly.<\/p>\n<p>This line of thinking has not gone away. During a 2011 debate in the House of Representatives over a bill that would defund the Sanger-founded Planned Parenthood of federal tax dollars, Wisconsin Congresswoman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H-q0EP8HjA0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gwen Moore suggested<\/a> it would be better for unborn children to die in abortions than grow up having to live poor and\u00a0eating \u201cRamen noodles\u201d and \u201cmayonnaise sandwiches.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More recently, Democrat Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/women-need-abortions-to-fight-inflation-dem-rep-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Katie Porter<\/a> said on MSNBC that families can survive Joe Biden\u2019s inflationary economy by aborting their children. Because killing kids saves money, right?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a 1932 speech delivered to the \u201cNew History Society,\u201d Sanger described her vision for the perfect United States. According to Sanger, a \u201cpopulation congress\u201d would ideally \u201capply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is already tainted or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The mentally and physically challenged continue to be targeted today. Studies show that babies prenatally diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted at a rate of somewhere around <em>80-90 <\/em>percent. In Denmark, around <a href=\"https:\/\/thelifeinstitute.net\/info\/down-syndrome-and-abortion-the-facts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">98 percent<\/a> of parents whose unborn children receive a Down syndrome diagnosis choose to abort their babies. In 2019, only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/magazine\/archive\/2020\/12\/the-last-children-of-down-syndrome\/616928\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">18<\/a> children with Down syndrome were born in the entire country.<\/p>\n<p>The Sanger sentiment has really sunk in. Just listen to \u201cThe View\u201d co-host <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ElAmerican_\/status\/1540446586194599936?s=20&amp;t=GEhMn3LT9eeGqJwu-7pqKw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ana Navarro suggest<\/a> that if a child is found to have a disability in the womb, it is preferable to kill the child than to give him or her a chance at life.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One of Sanger\u2019s most cherished initiatives was her \u201cNegro Project.\u201d She masked her eugenic goals by claiming to promote \u201cbodily autonomy\u201d in black neighborhoods. And to gain access to and trust in these communities, she enlisted the help of black pastors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today her apologists are rewriting history to make it seem like Sanger really wanted to help black Americans, but that idea is ridiculous. It ignores Sanger\u2019s writings and her associations with groups like the KKK, who shared her goal of weeding out the \u201cunfit\u201d by preventing the birth of \u201cundesirables.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Abortion supporters today say \u201ceven if that\u2019s true, who cares? It\u2019s not like Planned Parenthood is racist today.\u201d On the contrary, Sanger\u2019s \u201cNegro Project\u201d is alive and well. The vast majority of Planned Parenthood clinics remain in minority neighborhoods. According to the CDC, black women undergo 38 percent of abortions in the United States, yet black Americans only make up 13.4 percent of the U.S. population. One study actually found that black women in New York City have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2015\/nov\/25\/cynthia-meyer\/cynthia-meyer-says-more-black-babies-are-aborted-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more abortions than live births<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Pill<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the late 1950s, Sanger made her last horrible contribution to the world when she recruited researcher Gregory Pincus to develop an oral contraceptive, and in 1960, \u201cthe pill\u201d was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/features\/pill-us-food-and-drug-administration-approves-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">approved<\/a> by the Food and Drug Administration. And with the introduction of \u201cconsequence-free\u201d sex, our current population crisis became inevitable.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The second-wave feminist movement and its partner in crime, the pill, destroyed cultural priorities. It discouraged people from starting families. It lied to women, making them believe that their children are chains and the corporate rat race is freedom. It promoted hook-up culture and open relationships.\u00a0It told people that sex could be separated from reproduction so that when they were faced with an unplanned pregnancy, their already self-centered outlook led to more abortions.<\/p>\n<p>In 1910, President Theodore Roosevelt gave a speech at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontporchrepublic.com\/2020\/06\/teddy-roosevelts-prophetic-speech-the-perpetual-relevance-of-the-man-in-the-arena\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stated<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>The first essential in any civilization is that the man and the woman shall be father and mother of healthy children, so that the race shall increase and not decrease. If this is not so, if through no fault of the society there is failure to increase, it is a great misfortune. If the failure is due to deliberate and willful fault, then it is not merely a misfortune, it is one of those crimes of ease and self-indulgence, of shrinking from pain and effort and risk, which in the long run Nature punishes more heavily than any other.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Punishment may be exactly what has befallen Western civilization. AOC is right. Economic disaster is brewing as the elderly are now outnumbering the young, placing a strain on our many social entitlements and general productivity.
