I am proud to lead a team of special agents that remove firearms from the hands of dangerous individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAnd\u00a0today, I am establishing\u00a0the Office of Gun Violence Prevention to advance\u00a0a strong, statewide,\u00a0public health-focused\u00a0effort\u00a0as\u00a0we\u00a0continue working\u00a0together to put an end to this crisis once and for all,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a vague description of the new office, the press release said the group will be \u201cdedicated to\u00a0developing\u00a0strategies and working with stakeholders statewide to address the gun violence epidemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The office will reportedly assist the Department of Justice\u2019s continuing attempts to decrease gun violence, \u201cincluding the Department\u2019s seizure of firearms from dangerous individuals using the\u00a0Armed and Prohibited Persons System\u00a0(APPS),\u00a0prosecution of firearms trafficking cases, and\u00a0defense of California\u2019s commonsense gun laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Specifically, the release noted that Bonta supports those in California who will keep trying to reduce gun violence by taking guns from banned individuals in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/news\/press-releases\/california-department-justice-releases-2021-armed-and-prohibited-persons-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Armed and Prohibited Persons System<\/a>,\u00a0as well as carrying out multiagency sweeps in Los Angeles County and the San Francisco region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The goal of the OGVP will be to \u201creduce and prevent gun violence, firearm injury, and related trauma,\u201d according to a government <a href=\"https:\/\/oag.ca.gov\/ogvp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">site<\/a> for the office.
