But prominent Democrat\u00a0Stacey Abrams publicly claimed ultrasound technology that enables parents to hear that heartbeat is instead a patriarchal plot to control women\u2019s bodies by creating a \u201cmanufactured sound.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks,\u201d Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said during a Tuesday event at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center in Georgia. \u201cIt is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman\u2019s body.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"VkrldJ\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams: &#8220;There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. Brian Kemp signed into law HB 481, the fetal heartbeat bill, which <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/05\/28\/netflix-georgia-heartbeat-bill-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">outlaws<\/a> abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected.\u00a0Abrams also said the legislation shouldn\u2019t be referred to as the \u201cfetal heartbeat bill\u201d because the name is \u201cmedically false\u201d and \u201cbiologically a lie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/americanpregnancy.org\/healthy-pregnancy\/pregnancy-health-wellness\/early-fetal-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Pregnancy Association<\/a>, however, a baby\u2019s heartbeat can usually be detected between six and seven weeks. Even Planned Parenthood, the country\u2019s largest abortion provider, admits babies develop a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/McCormackJohn\/status\/1572924096429563907\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">very basic beating heart<\/a>\u201d by five to six weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>Abrams is not alone in promoting the conspiracy theory. Recently, following the success of state legislation offering some protections for unborn children with a detectable heartbeat, some abortion extremists have attempted to assert that fetal heartbeats aren\u2019t real. The coordinated campaign to deny scientific reality took off in February 2022 when The New York Times began to claim pro-abortion \u201cexperts\u201d are starting to doubt the long-held reality that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/02\/14\/health\/abortion-heartbeat-debate.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unborn children have detectable heartbeats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion radicals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livescience.com\/65501-fetal-heartbeat-at-6-weeks-explained.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">argue<\/a> that because an unborn baby\u2019s heart is not fully developed and its beats are faint, it isn\u2019t actually a heartbeat.\u00a0The campaign is reminiscent of a growing movement to claim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/science\/elements\/looking-for-life-on-a-flat-earth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the earth is actually flat<\/a>. But the human heart grows throughout childhood, only reaching its full size when a person stops growing. <\/p>\n<p>Democrats have been focusing on the topic of abortion under the belief that it will help their electoral prospects in November. In June, the Supreme Court issued its <em>Dobbs<\/em> ruling, which overturned the controversial <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> decision which forbade nearly all restrictions on ending unborn human life.<\/p>\n<p>But polling <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/28\/democrats-push-taxpayer-funded-abortion-until-birth-despite-significant-unpopularity-among-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shows<\/a> the vast majority of Americans support at least some protections for unborn children, particularly later in pregnancy. Democrats, including Abrams, oppose any and all restrictions on abortion.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to denying the reality of heartbeats in unborn children, Abrams is also known for denying the reality of the election she lost when she previously ran for governor of Georgia in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Abrams is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2022\/governor\/ga\/georgia_governor_kemp_vs_abrams-7538.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">polling 6.6 points behind<\/a> incumbent Kemp.
