The incident sparked intense backlash online, with many remarking that the FBI is \u2014 once again \u2014 being used as a political weapon.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the cell phone seizure debacle, soon after, Lindell <a href=\"https:\/\/pjmedia.com\/news-and-politics\/lincolnbrown\/2022\/09\/15\/mike-lindell-is-suing-the-fbi-and-the-government-for-violating-his-rights-pay-attention-n1629887\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced a lawsuit<\/a> against President Joe Biden\u2019s DOJ and the FBI, challenging the seizure and insisting that his \u201cFirst, Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments\u201d were violated. Lindell, in his lawsuit, claimed that he was denied the chance to contact his attorney and said he feared \u201cfor his and his friend\u2019s lives\u201d as the federal agents trapped them in the drive-thru.<\/p>\n<p>Lindell listed U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray as defendants in the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/3654707-doj-investigating-mike-lindell-over-potential-identity-theft-damage-to-protected-computer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a>, as a result of Lindell\u2019s lawsuit filing in the U.S. District Court in Minnesota, it was revealed in the warrant used to seize his phone that Lindell is currently under federal investigation for \u201cidentity theft, intentional damage to a protected computer and conspiracy to commit identity theft or intentionally damage a protected computer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reuters has the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/my-pillow-ceo-trump-ally-faces-probe-plot-target-2020-election-computers-2022-09-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">details<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The new details about the focus of the investigation were confirmed on Wednesday after Lindell\u2019s attorneys uploaded a copy of a search and seizure warrant approved by U.S. Magistrate Judge Tony Leung for Minnesota federal court on Sept. 7.<\/p>\n<p>Leung approved the warrant based on probable cause that Lindell and other possible co-conspirators may have violated federal laws prohibiting identity fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States and causing intentional damage a protected computer.<\/p>\n[\u2026]\n<p>The investigation came on the heels of a parallel state investigation, after election-equipment passwords were discovered on a right-wing internet blog.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The DOJ\u2019s interest in pursuing the case stems from an investigation launched last year by the FBI into a suspected cyber breach of voting equipment in Mesa County, Colorado. That equipment was furnished by Dominion Voting Systems, one of the voting machine companies Lindell and other Trump supporters are accused of taking part in an election-rigging conspiracy. Dominion is one of the two voting system companies currently suing Lindell over defamation claims.<\/p>\n<p>News of a possible breach of the county\u2019s voting equipment led to Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold authorizing the decertification of 41 voting machines. Griswold would go on to accuse Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters, who happens to be a Trump-supporting Republican, of taking part in the breach.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters added:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Peters, her deputy Belinda Knisley and former elections manager Sandra Brown were indicted on state criminal charges this year in connection with the election security breach.<\/p>\n<p>Knisley has since plead guilty and will testify against Peters, who has maintained she is not guilty of the charges.<\/p>\n<p>Peters, Knisley and Brown are all named as subjects in the Justice Department\u2019s criminal investigation, according to the warrant, along with several others.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lindell, represented by a legal team that includes heavy-hitting attorney and former Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz, has, as part of his lawsuit, requested that any information taken from his seized phone not be released by the DOJ to the public. The MyPillow CEO also told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/mike-lindell-vendors-ditching-business-over-fbi-probe-2022-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business Insider<\/a> that his business is suffering due to the FBI\u2019s seizure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t do money wires,\u201d he told Business Insider. \u201cThey took the files that were in there, and it really crippled me with work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lindell added that a growing list of vendors set to appear on his new \u201cMyStore\u201d website has pulled their deals. \u201cYou know, they don\u2019t want to have the connection of the FBI. The FBI scares them,\u201d Lindell said, adding that he understands the companies don\u2019t want \u201cto get canceled\u201d due to being associated with him.<\/p>\n<p>Only time will tell if anything comes of the DOJ investigation into the successful pillow maker.
