Although production was originally slated to begin in 2019, Tesla CEO Elon Musk <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1557236629412007937\">announced<\/a> last month that the Tesla Semi would start shipping by the end of 2022. Diesel semi-trucks can travel 2,100 miles on a single tank, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/schneiderjobs.com\/blog\/how-long-is-a-semi-truck-fun-facts\">analysis<\/a> from logistics company Schneider, while Tesla\u2019s electric version will have a range of 500 miles.<\/p>\n<p>The California Air Resources Board also claimed that decreasing emissions is necessary to avoid severe weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn California, climate change is contributing to an escalation of serious problems along with worsening air quality challenges, including raging wildfires, coastal erosion, extreme weather, disruption of water supply, threats to agriculture, spread of insect-borne diseases, and continuing health threats from air pollution,\u201d the proposal continued. \u201cReducing GHG emissions helps put California on a trajectory to avoid the worst impacts of climate change and supports a growing clean energy economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>News of the proposal comes weeks after the California Air Resources Board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-expected-to-ban-sale-of-new-gas-cars\">issued new rules<\/a> requiring 35% of new vehicles to produce zero emissions by 2026 \u2014 a standard that will rise to a 68% benchmark by 2030 and a 100% benchmark by 2035.<\/p>\n<p>Experts have warned that the state\u2019s electric grid, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-asks-residents-to-avoid-charging-electric-vehicles-due-to-blackout-risk-days-after-unveiling-new-gas-car-ban\">faced blackouts<\/a> during a heatwave earlier this month, will require significant upgrades to manage a rapid transition away from internal combustion vehicles. However, alerts from California officials asked residents to avoid charging their electric cars in the afternoon and evening during a recent heatwave, when demand for power was high.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, most people charge their electric cars when they come home in the evening \u2014 when electricity demand is typically at its peak,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ece.cornell.edu\/spotlights\/prepare-grid-now-power-electric-vehicles\">report<\/a> from researchers at Cornell University\u2019s College of Engineering. \u201cIf left unmanaged, the power demanded from many electric vehicles charging simultaneously in the evening will amplify existing peak loads, potentially outstripping the grid\u2019s current capacity to meet demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Washington, Massachusetts, and Virginia will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/two-more-states-follow-californias-ban-on-new-gas-cars\">follow<\/a> the California Air Resources Board gas car regulations in accordance with previously enacted laws, although Republicans in the latter state are attempting to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ridiculous-edict-virginia-gov-glenn-youngkin-blasts-californias-gas-car-phase-out\">overturn<\/a> the statute.
