The feature is standard equipment on nearly all vehicles made by other manufacturers during that time-frame, IIHS said.<\/p>\n<p>Hyundai and Kia both said their vehicles meet U.S. motor vehicle standards but said their vehicles were being targeted in a \u201ccoordinated effort\u201d by social media users. Hyundai said engine immobilizers became standard on all vehicles produced after Nov. 1, 2021, while Kia said it added immobilizers in all vehicles during the 2022 model year.<\/p>\n<p>Hyundai said that, starting Oct. 1, it will make available for purchase at dealerships a security kit that targets the method of entry thieves are using to access these vehicles. <\/p>\n<p>Kia said: \u201cCriminals are seeking vehicles solely equipped with a steel key and \u2018turn-to-start\u2019 ignition system. The majority of Kia vehicles in the United States are equipped with a key fob and \u2018push-button-to-start\u2019 system, making them more difficult to steal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The insurance group said immobilizers were standard on 62% of models from other manufacturers in model year 2000, rising to 96% by 2015.
