But prospects for gun-control legislation are slim in the closely divided House and Senate and the statement did not mention any plans for Biden to act without Congress. Members of Biden&#8217;s administration have also met with gun-control activists in recent weeks, but those meetings have&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/politics\/2021\/02\/bidens-white-house-is-ready-to-tackle-gun-violence-black-led-groups-hope-they-wont-be-excluded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">caused a backlash from minority activists<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;who were initially&nbsp;excluded.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Some gun-control activists have defended the administration. John Feinblatt, president of the Michael Bloomberg-backed Everytown for Gun Safety,&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/02\/23\/biden-gun-safety-pandemic-471064\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">told <em>Politico<\/em><\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;Biden&#8217;s is&nbsp;&#8220;the strongest gun safety administration in history&#8221; and his group has &#8220;full confidence they&#8217;re going to govern like it.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">March For Our Lives, which organized the largest gun-control demonstration in history and has pushed for&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/issues\/march-for-our-lives-proposes-confiscating-up-to-117-million-guns\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">confiscating upwards of 117 million civilian-owned guns<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, is unhappy with waiting for action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The group wants Biden to create a new position called the Director of Gun Violence Prevention who will have the same level of power as members of the president&#8217;s cabinet such as the Secretary of Defense or Secretary of State. Then the group wants Biden to issue executive actions, including one to outlaw selling more than five guns per year without a federal license and one opening up new IRS and FEC investigations into the NRA. The group also wants Biden to declare gun violence a &#8220;national public health emergency&#8221; and use the Stafford Act to reallocate at least $1 billion towards community gun violence intervention programs and gun &#8220;data collection with a public health lens.&#8221;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;We want to fight back and change the systems that have kept young people, Black people, and other people of color out of the conversation,&#8221; Bria Smith, a March&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;Our Lives board member, said in a&nbsp;statement. &#8220;Our stories are not just for consumption.
