According to court documents obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valleynewslive.com\/2022\/09\/19\/man-admits-killing-teen-after-political-dispute-foster-co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Valley News Live<\/a>, Ellingson called his mom shortly before the crash to ask if she knew who Brandt was. His mother confirmed she did and told Ellingson she was on the way to pick him up. In a second call, Ellingson told his mom Brandt was chasing him. <\/p>\n<p>North Dakota Highway Patrol Capt. Bryan Niewind confirmed Brandt was the one \u201cwho called 911 to report the crash\u201d around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, but that didn\u2019t stop Brandt from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.valleynewslive.com\/2022\/09\/19\/man-admits-killing-teen-after-political-dispute-foster-co\/\">abandoning<\/a> the scene before officers arrived. Law enforcement confronted and arrested Brandt at his home where he admitted to attacking Ellingson based on political motivations and leaving the scene where Ellingson lay dying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are still trying to determine what, exactly, transpired at the time of crash and prior to that as well,\u201d Niewind said. As of Monday night, law enforcement was unaware of any witnesses. <\/p>\n<p>Brandt, who also admitted to drinking before the incident, was charged on Monday with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He is being held on a $50,000 bail. If convicted, Brandt could face a minimum of 10 years in prison. <\/p>\n<p>Despite recently claiming that combatting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/08\/05\/fbi-christopher-wray-rise-us-politically-driven-violence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">political violence and domestic extremism<\/a> is a top priority for the agency, the FBI did not immediately respond to The Federalist\u2019s questions about whether it plans to investigate the motives for the alleged homicide.  <\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday night, corporate media outlets, which amplified Biden\u2019s shaming of MAGA Republicans, had not covered the killing.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
