It\u2019s a 50\u201350 proposition,\u201d McConnell told the Scott County Chamber of Commerce in August when asked about the approaching battle. \u201cWe\u2019ve got a 50\u201350 Senate right now. We\u2019ve got a 50\u201350 nation. And I think the outcome is likely to be very, very close either way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McConnell blamed \u201ccandidate quality\u201d for the gloomy outlook, which was followed by an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/washington-versus-republican-voters\">op-ed<\/a> from National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Rick Scott (R-Fla.)\u2014the number two Senate Republican for organizing campaign strategy and fundraising\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/sen-rick-scott-decries-treasonous-republicans-for-trash-talking-gop-senate-candidates_4706725.html\">blasting \u201ctreasonous\u201d Republicans \u201ctrash-talking\u201d Senate GOP candidates.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like Scott, Senate Judiciary Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/grassley-optimistic-about-gop-flipping-senate-after-gloomy-predictions-from-mcconnell_4716865.html\">remains optimistic about his party\u2019s prospects<\/a>, predicting a 52-48 Republican majority next year.<\/p>\n<p>Still, if Republicans fail to retake the Senate, Democrats are still likely to face an end to their extended reign over the past two years.
