In the book, he described how he was sexually abused at both 15 and 18 years of age. McConaughey most recently described how a conversation he had with his father about consent never factored into what eventually happened with him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I had been taught, been guided by my parents about respect for a woman, respect for the relationship, respect for sexual intimacy, respect for space,\u201d he said during an interview with Amanda de Cadenet on \u201cThe Conversation: About the Men\u201d podcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad had always had this thing when he taught us the birds and the bees, he sat me down talking the birds and the bees. \u2018You\u2019re getting that age you kiss?\u2019 and I said, \u2018Yes, sir.\u2019 And he goes, \u2018Well, it\u2019s gonna go further than that one day. It\u2019s probably gonna go to where you\u2019re gonna get intimate and there\u2019s gonna be the breast, and there\u2019s gonna be below the belt.\u2019 I\u2019m paraphrasing, and he goes, \u2018It\u2019s gonna happen to you as well.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd so he goes, and he\u2019s talking to me, he says, \u2018Son, as a male in the situation,\u2019 speaking to me about a heterosexual relationship, \u2018If you ever feel the girl, the female, hesitate, stop,\u2019\u201d McConaughey continued, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/tvshowbiz\/article-11230339\/Matthew-McConaughey-refuses-let-blackmailed-sex-teenager-beat-him.html\">The Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe even said this, he goes, \u2018You may even feel them hesitate, and then after you stop, they may go, oh, no, no, come on. Don\u2019t. Wait til next time.\u2019 And he was right, I got in certain senses where it was like, \u2018No, no, no. OK, I\u2019m out.\u2019 And saying, \u2018OK, cool. I\u2019m out.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to describe just how he had put that advice into practice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter that, I got to have some healthy sexual relations and have girls that I liked and liked me, and we slowly got intimate and it was beautiful and clumsy, and all those things, but it wasn\u2019t ugly like that was,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>McConaughey said he \u201cdidn\u2019t connect\u201d the conversation with a sexual assault that occurred a few years later when he was 18 and \u201cknocked unconscious\u201d by a man \u201cin the back of a van.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cDallas Buyers Club\u201d star insisted he didn\u2019t want the experience to ruin his life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not gonna be afraid of relationships because my first experience was blackmail. Uh uh. That\u2019s an aberration. No, no. That\u2019s not the way it is,\u201d has said during the podcast interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if I go on \u2013 and I\u2019m not gonna let it beat me. I\u2019m going, \u2018I\u2019m not gonna let that beat my sense of trust in people and say, \u2018No, I can have a healthy relationship.\u2019 Non-negotiable. No.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just after the book came out, McConaughey said he didn\u2019t feel like the victim from his experiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI write also in the book I\u2019ve never felt like a victim,\u201d he said on the Tamron Hall Show. \u201cYes, was I victimized in those two situations? Sure. But that doesn\u2019t mean that I\u2019ve carried on through my life the feeling of \u2018Oh I was victimized\u2019 or \u2018Oh I was a victim\u2019 or that those two unfortunate events have turned me into the man that I am or are even an excuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose two events happened to me at 15 and 18.
