He will run if Biden does not,&#8221; one California fundraiser connected to the Newsom family told the <em>Wrap<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Another individual, a Los Angeles philanthropist and Democratic fundraiser, also confirmed that Newsom intends to run.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom in recent weeks has worked to boost his national profile, taking out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/losangeles\/news\/newsom-airs-ad-in-florida-criticizing-restrictive-laws-on-abortion-voting\/\">advertising<\/a> across the country and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/09\/17\/ron-desantis-gavin-newsom-debate-migrants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">challenging <\/a>Florida governor Ron DeSantis (R.) to a debate.<\/p>\n<p>The governor&#8217;s track record during the COVID-19 pandemic could be a liability in a presidential race. Newsom elicited outrage for California&#8217;s pandemic measures that shut down businesses and churches.
