The project is called the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/votelikeamadre.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vote Like a Madre<\/a>\u201d campaign, which is an odd campaign name from a party that is fighting to erase \u201cmadres,\u201d preferring the genderless title \u201cbirthing people.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The \u201cVote like a Madre\u201d campaign encourages Latina moms to make a \u201cpinky promise\u201d to their children that they\u2019ll only vote for candidates with \u201cbold plans to fight climate change.\u201d The campaign conveniently omits the fact that progressive climate change policies are responsible for the record-high gas and food prices and other economic woes that Hispanics rank as their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/fact-tank\/2020\/09\/11\/hispanic-voters-say-economy-health-care-and-covid-19-are-top-issues-in-2020-presidential-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">No. 1<\/a> voting issue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A long A-list of celebrity Latinas, like Jennifer Lopez, America Ferrera, Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda, Jessica Alba, and Rosario Dawson are participating in the hashtag. However, this astroturfing climate campaign isn\u2019t just relying on celebrity endorsements.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cVote Like a Madre\u201d campaign is also paying smaller Latina social media influencers, particularly those in swing states Nevada and Arizona, to promote the illusion that Latina mothers are worried about climate change.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Latino Victory Project has hired a New York City-based company called \u201cPeople First\u201d to recruit social media influencers to participate in the \u201cVote Like a Madre\u201d campaign for pay or perks. \u201cIf you are interested in participating in this campaign, please answer the following,\u201d writes People First Digital Relational Organizer Logan Smith in an email obtained by The Federalist, \u201c[c]onfirm that you are a Latina,\u201d \u201c[s]tate whether you live in Arizona or Nevada (if you live in another state, please send a screenshot of your audience location analytics, as we can only work with creators with a large audience in Arizona or Nevada),\u201d and \u201c[s]tate whether you are a mother, an aunt, and\/or a grandmother.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The People First representative goes on to add that even if you do not meet the requirement for participating in the trend, you will receive \u201c$50 referral payments for every 5 referrals that end up participating in this campaign.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A glowing 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/2019\/06\/can-democrats-win-back-the-internet-in-the-age-of-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vanity Fair<\/a> feature described People First (then known as Main Street One) as a \u201crebellious tech start-up\u201d helping \u201cDemocrats win back the internet in the age of Trump.\u201d People First disseminates messaging from left-wing organizations in the same way\u00a0clothing and beauty brands partner with influencers to promote their products on TikTok, YouTube, or Instagram. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prweb.com\/releases\/2022\/6\/prweb18732357.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claims<\/a> that \u201cclients can commission content from virtually anyone, any voter segment, geography, profession, party affiliation, identity, age, race, sexuality, or gender.\u201d It is an \u201cinfluencer-marketing campaign\u201d for \u201cpolitics for the Kardashian era,\u201d as Vanity Fair puts it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a People First press release, the organization boasts that it \u201cfuels advocacy campaigns on public health issues such as vaccine hesitancy\u201d as well as \u201csocial justice and equal rights campaigns for organizations such as Black Lives Matter,\u201d and is partnering with Unite the Country PAC \u201cto execute the most extensive microinfluencer campaign in U.S. political history on behalf of the president\u2019s economic and social agenda.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans increasingly distrust institutions, including political campaigns, the media, government, and corporations,\u201d said People First CEO Curtis Hougland. \u201cInstead, they build trust through their relationships online. So, we built a platform that invites real people to share their lived experiences on behalf of causes and campaigns that they support. Real people are the most persuasive messengers to skeptical audiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But would Latina influencers be writing \u201c#votelikeamadre\u201d and posting pinky promise videos and pictures about climate change if they weren\u2019t being paid by the Latino Victory Project via People First? It\u2019s doubtful since Hispanics consistently tell pollsters that the economy is their top issue, and out of all the top racial and ethnic groups, Hispanics have <a href=\"https:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/features\/biden-has-lost-support-across-all-groups-of-americans-but-especially-independents-and-hispanics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> the sharpest decline in approval of Biden\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Democrat leadership, inflation is at a 40-year high, and working-class families are struggling to pay for gas and groceries. The United States has officially entered into an economic recession, whether our president admits it or not.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Laughably, the \u201cVote Like a Madre\u201d campaign praises the Inflation Reduction Act, which did nothing to reduce inflation because it is actually a climate spending bill. Indeed, it could likely create more inflation by throwing dollars at wasteful \u201cenvironmental justice\u201d policies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>People First specializes in conjuring up the illusion that damaging progressive policies are wildly supported by everyday Americans. And the \u201cVote Like a Madre\u201d campaign is just that: a digital illusion. Latina mothers aren\u2019t climate alarmists.
