Liz Cheney as the think tank\u2019s featured speaker for Constitution Day.<\/p>\n<p>The online lecture will be held Monday evening to commemorate the signing of the Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNearly two centuries later, an alarmingly widespread contempt for our laws and political process is threatening the intergenerational compact that perpetuates the American experiment,\u201d the website\u2019s event description <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aei.org\/events\/2022-walter-berns-constitution-day-lecture-with-rep-liz-cheney-r-wy-virtual\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reads<\/a>. \u201cPlease join AEI for the 11th annual Walter Berns Constitution Day Lecture, featuring Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) on why Lincoln\u2019s call for a patriotism grounded in \u2018reverence for the Constitution\u2019 is essential for protecting our inheritance of liberty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AEI did not respond to The Federalist\u2019s request for comment on whether the D.C. think tank now officially supports the committee and its work undermining constitutional values by the explicit targeting of political opponents. But AEI\u2019s decision to offer its platform to Cheney, the vice chair of the Jan. 6 panel, speaks for itself. Over the course of a year and a half, the committee has violated civil liberties with the <a href=\"https:\/\/greenwald.substack.com\/p\/civil-liberties-are-being-trampled\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">collection<\/a> of private cell phone data, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/12\/liz-cheney-is-using-the-jan-6-committee-to-persecute-an-activist-running-a-super-pac-to-unseat-her\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">targeted<\/a> opponents who worked to unseat the panel\u2019s incumbent members, and undermined constitutional values by the widespread <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/13\/second-j6-hearing-criminalizes-republicans-for-election-objections-after-democrats-made-them-for-decades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">persecution <\/a>of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/30\/the-attacks-on-clarence-and-ginni-thomas-are-merely-latest-in-a-decades-long-smear-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">private individuals<\/a> who dared raise questions about the integrity of the last election decided by less than 44,000 votes across three states. <\/p>\n<p>Down the street in the nation\u2019s capital, the Heritage Foundation will be hosting its own event to celebrate Constitution Day on Monday night, featuring Wyoming attorney Harriet Hageman. In August, Hageman <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/16\/wyoming-republicans-throw-liz-cheney-out-of-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">defeated<\/a> Cheney, a three-term incumbent, in the Wyoming Republican primary by 66 to 29 percent. Hageman\u2019s margin of victory is <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/18\/analysis-if-not-for-democrat-voters-cheneys-loss-would-have-been-even-more-devastating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">even greater<\/a> when considering Cheney relied on state Democrats to change parties for the primary. <\/p>\n[<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/18\/analysis-if-not-for-democrat-voters-cheneys-loss-would-have-been-even-more-devastating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ANALYSIS: If Not For Democrat Voters, Cheney\u2019s Loss Would Have Been Even More Devastating<\/a>]\n<p>The event put on by the Heritage Foundation will also be available to stream <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/the-constitution\/event\/fighting-protect-the-constitution-what-are-the-threats-and-how-do-we-fight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarriet Hageman has spent a lifetime upholding the values of the Constitution in the legal and political arenas,\u201d reads the Heritage event description. \u201cTo celebrate Constitution Day, she joins Heritage\u2019s Tommy Binion to think through the gravest threats to the Constitution and help prepare the conservative movement for the fight to protect it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hageman, a trial attorney for nearly 30 years from southeast Wyoming, <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=PG3aRFgQ3Z0C&amp;dq=Harriet+Hageman&amp;pg=PA16#v=onepage&amp;q=Harriet%20Hageman&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">advocated<\/a> against the U.S. Forest Service\u2019s \u201croadless rule\u201d in federal court and has served as senior litigation counsel for the New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA) since 2019. The NCLA is a nonprofit civil rights group dedicated to protecting constitutional freedoms from the encroachment of the administrative state. Hageman has published posts <a href=\"https:\/\/nclalegal.org\/2021\/05\/james-madison-universitys-title-ix-investigation-flouts-due-process-rights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">condemning<\/a> federal overreach from Title IX abuses to <a href=\"https:\/\/nclalegal.org\/2020\/10\/bad-regulations-destroy-our-environment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">environmental mismanagement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
