Ron DeSantis flew a small group of illegal border crossers to the rich island of Martha\u2019s Vineyard escalated last week when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/09\/16\/desantis-migrants-marthas-vineyard-00057300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">several Democrats in Florida, Massachusetts, and California<\/a> asked the Department of Justice to investigate red states such as Florida and Texas for <a href=\"https:\/\/katv.com\/news\/nation-world\/florida-official-wants-ron-desantis-investigated-for-political-human-trafficking-marthas-vineyard-nikkie-fried-department-of-justice-immigration-sanctuary-city\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201ctrafficking\u201d<\/a> migrants against their wills. <\/p>\n<p>As DeSantis noted, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RebelNewsOnline\/status\/1571877752181035008?s=20&amp;t=mKItzo6_N7qm4uFyydqFqg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cthese are voluntary transportation\u201d<\/a> to a location that once boasted of being a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/09\/16\/local-officials-wanted-marthas-vineyard-to-be-a-haven-for-illegals-until-migrants-actually-arrived\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201chaven\u201d<\/a> for migrants, but that didn\u2019t stop blue state politicians from turning the latest border crisis news cycle into an opportunity to sic the feds on their political opponents. <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a \u201crules for thee but not for me\u201d kind of move. After all, President Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/15\/biden-administration-resumes-migrant-flights-to-airport-outside-nyc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">transported illegal border crossers across the country<\/a> under the cover of night without much corporate media coverage or consequence for more than a year. But Democrat politicians who once <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/losangeles\/news\/gavin-newsom-california-governor-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">touted sanctuary<\/a> protections for illegal border crossers and, more importantly, the DOJ apparently only draw the line when these migrant flights and bus trips by day are sponsored by Republican politicians. <\/p>\n<p>California Gov. Gavin Newsom was one of the first Democrats to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CAgovernor\/status\/1570494386966007808\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pen a letter<\/a> to Attorney General Merrick Garland last week demanding that the DOJ investigate the \u201cmorally reprehensible\u201d and potentially \u201cillegal\u201d act of transporting illegal border crossers across the country. Attorneys claiming to represent the Venezuelans also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/09\/17\/politics\/marthas-vineyard-migrants-criminal-investigation\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asked the U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts<\/a> to open a criminal investigation into the Martha\u2019s Vineyard flights.<\/p>\n<p>Newsom, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/newsom-slams-morally-reprehensible-migrant-transports-launching-homeless-bus-program-sf-mayor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bussed homeless people<\/a> out of town when he was the San Francisco mayor,  suggested the DOJ consider bringing kidnapping and \u201ccivil rights conspiracy\u201d charges against Republican governors facilitating the bussing and flying of migrants in \u201cthis alleged fraudulent scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis, unfazed by the backlash, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/desantis-blames-newsoms-hair-gel-muddling-brain-function-after-call-doj-probe-migrant-flights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">quipped<\/a> that Newsom\u2019s \u201chair gel is interfering with his brain function.\u201d The DOJ, however, was not unfazed. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco all but confirmed in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/videos\/2022-09-16\/balance-of-power-full-show-09-16-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview with Bloomberg<\/a> that the federal agency is evaluating \u201ca number of inquiries and letters\u201d like Newsom\u2019s demanding an investigation. It\u2019s unclear if any of those \u201cinquiries and letters\u201d include concerns about Biden\u2019s \u201cghost flights\u201d but if the DOJ\u2019s recent actions tell us anything, it\u2019s that the agency likely won\u2019t go after the regime that\u2019s given it unfettered power to incriminate.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing as how the DOJ has jumped at opportunities to target Republican-led states like Texas and Florida in the past, it would come as no surprise for the federal agency to use its authority and resources to go after the regime\u2019s political enemies instead of addressing the real border crisis. <\/p>\n<p>As a matter of fact, that\u2019s already happening. <\/p>\n<p>For more than a year now, Garland and his DOJ henchmen have had their legal crosshairs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/07\/06\/operation-lone-star-doj-investigation-abbott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">aimed at Texas Gov. Greg Abbott\u2019s actions at the border<\/a>. Instead of addressing the influx of illegal border crossers and the crime wave that comes with open border policies, the DOJ has focused its efforts on stopping Abbott from building a wall at the Texas-Mexico border and investigating whether Operation Lone Star, the deployment of more than 10,000 National Guard and Department of Public Safety troopers to the border, violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964. <\/p>\n<p>Now, with urging from several Democrats, the DOJ could include DeSantis as a target in its crusade against red states and any other border state that decides to take matters into its own hands. <\/p>\n<p>Bending the rules beyond recognition to do as it pleases is not foreign to the Biden administration nor the DOJ. But if the DOJ decides to indulge Newsom and other Democrats\u2019 requests to go after DeSantis and keep on its campaign against Abbott, it will once again prove that its loyalties lie not to the rule of law, such as laws stopping people from illegally entering the country, but to the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/21\/merrick-garlands-version-of-justice-for-all-doesnt-include-his-political-enemies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrat-controlled regime<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>A move like that will also likely further impede the trust of voters who understand the magnitude of the border crisis far better than anyone in Washington D.C. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
