Several investigations, including one carried out by former special counsel Robert Mueller, found no evidence Trump colluded with Moscow to win the 2016 election, although those notions have persisted in mainstream media outlets.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday during a rally in Ohio to support GOP candidates, Trump made note of special counsel John Durham\u2019s investigation into the federal government\u2019s Russia investigation. Last week, Durham\u2019s team issued a court filing that said\u00a0Igor Danchenko, the alleged principal source of the \u201cSteele dossier\u201d that targeted Trump, was later made a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/igor-danchenko-was-paid-fbi-informant-said-he-was-working-against-trump-filing_4728922.html\">paid FBI informant.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Danchenko, a Russia analyst, is facing five charges of lying to the FBI. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that sounds like a slightly Russian name,\u201d Trump said during the event. \u201cThe foreign national fabricated some of the most ridiculous smears and lies in the phony Steele dossier. It was all phony.<\/p>\n<p>He added:\u00a0\u201cHow would you like to be me and go home and explain that one to my wife (Melania Trump)? Darling, it wasn\u2019t true. I swear it wasn\u2019t \u2026 it was all phony.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 45th president then asserted that the allegations that were pushed in the dossier, a series of notes pushed by former UK spy Christopher Steele, were made up by Democrats who were\u00a0\u201cworking with a paid informant of the FBI.\u201d\u00a0Steele compiled the dossier while being paid by Hillary Clinton\u2019s 2016 presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMan, what a country we have,\u201d Trump also told the rally-goers. \u201cWe\u2019ve got to fix our country.
