I thought we were going to Cancun,\u201d a male voice first appears in the video, referencing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2021\/02\/18\/ted-cruz-cancun-power-outage\/\">Mexico trip<\/a> Cruz took\u00a0last February\u00a0while many Texas residents grappled with power outages under severe weather.<\/p>\n<p>The person soon caught the attention of the senator by raising up the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mkt_app\/2-dead-multiple-injured-after-shooting-at-texas-elementary-school-shooting-hospital_4488251.html\">mass school shooting in Uvalde<\/a> during the mid-day on May 24, when an 18-year-old shooter killed 19 students and two teachers. \u201cSenator, thank you for everything you\u2019ve done since Uvalde. All those podcast episodes must have raised a lot of money for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He then criticized Cruz for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/list-senate-republicans-who-voted-for-gun-control-bill_4553261.html\">pushing against a bill<\/a> that would tighten gun laws, which passed through the House and Senate and was signed into law by President Joe Biden in June.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz responded by pointing out that Senate Democrats on Wednesday blocked his proposed Securing Our Schools Act (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/secure_our_schools.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) that would have doubled the number of police officers in public, charter, and private schools, strengthen physical security measures such as alarm systems and locks, and put thousands of mental health professionals in public schools.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/senate-democrats-block-bills-to-protect-children-and-safeguard-schools\">objected to passing the bill<\/a> on the Senate floor on Sept. 14, accusing\u00a0Cruz of pushing \u201ctheater,\u201d along with another bill (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruz.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/protect_our_childrens_schools_act.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) from Cruz that would have allowed schools to use unspent education-related COVID-19 funding to improve school security.<\/p>\n<p>The man cast doubts on those efforts claiming the senator was busy working on his episodes,<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
