A bipartisan 4-0 committee voted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/politics\/2021\/02\/rep-diego-hernandez-faces-house-vote-to-expel-him.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/politics\/2021\/02\/rep-diego-hernandez-faces-house-vote-to-expel-him.html&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1614181272093000&#038;usg=AFQjCNHniF6SNO_fP8mKe9HmW5tb_4zHlA\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\" data-mt-detrack-attachment-inspected=\"true\">recommend<\/a> his expulsion from the legislature earlier this month over accusations that he sexually harassed three women who work in the Capitol.<\/p>\n<div class=\"yj6qo ajU\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Oregon legislature has never expelled a member before, but the 18 allegations against Hernandez, including that he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/politics\/2021\/02\/rep-diego-hernandez-faces-house-vote-to-expel-him.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/politics\/2021\/02\/rep-diego-hernandez-faces-house-vote-to-expel-him.html&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1614181272093000&#038;usg=AFQjCNHniF6SNO_fP8mKe9HmW5tb_4zHlA\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\" data-mt-detrack-attachment-inspected=\"true\">threatened<\/a> to undermine the careers of two women if they did not enter into relationships with him, were likely viewed as sufficient to remove the recently reelected Democrat. Two-thirds of the 60-member legislative body would have been needed to remove Hernandez,\u00a0but rather than force his colleagues to vote to remove him, Hernandez threw in the towel, citing his desire to &#8220;move forward with my life and focus on my health and family.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Hernandez had fought to keep the seat he&#8217;d held since 2017.\u00a0In a court filing, Hernandez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/politics\/2021\/02\/vote-to-expel-rep-diego-hernandez-all-other-legislative-business-cancelled-monday-and-tuesday.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.oregonlive.com\/politics\/2021\/02\/vote-to-expel-rep-diego-hernandez-all-other-legislative-business-cancelled-monday-and-tuesday.html&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1614181272093000&#038;usg=AFQjCNFT2KSKUkWuysN02ne3Xf7SglQH4w\" data-mt-detrack-inspected=\"true\" data-mt-detrack-attachment-inspected=\"true\">claimed<\/a> that key evidence in his favor was withheld from the legislature\u2019s conduct committee. His filing alleges that the texts, emails, and social media posts he submitted were fully redacted by the legislature\u2019s equity office in order to protect the identities of his accusers.
