Democrats and the media deride this activism as a dangerous \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.democracydocket.com\/opinion\/republicans-are-plotting-to-subvert-elections-right-before-our-eyes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">attack on elections<\/a>\u201d and claim that election workers\u2019 safety is in danger (despite the fact that DOJ Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Polite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?522074-1\/hearing-threats-election-workers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admitted<\/a> that out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/readout-election-threats-task-force-briefing-election-officials-and-workers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1,000 threats<\/a> reported against election workers to the DOJ hotline last year, only 100 met the threshold for investigation, and out of that 100, five were prosecuted by the DOJ). <\/p>\n<p>Becker <a href=\"https:\/\/electionline.org\/electionline-weekly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claims his group<\/a> will run communications efforts to help election offices combat \u201cdisinformation\u201d and to create \u201can effective truthful narrative.\u201d When asked about Becker\u2019s new project, Cleta Mitchell, senior legal fellow at the Conservative Partnership Institute, quipped, \u201cWhat disinformation are they countering and who is the truth czar?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through EOLDN\u2019s website, election officials may request communications assistance and be matched with a professional free of charge. Such assistance will include \u201ctraditional media, social media, messaging, planning, rapid response, and anything else an election office needs to support their work and combat disinformation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Scott Walter, president of Capital Research Center, told The Federalist \u201cit\u2019s far from clear that administrators are being threatened by \u2018disinformation\u2019 \u2013 a loaded term used by activists \u2013 or that it\u2019s appropriate for a tax-exempt nonprofit to provide\u00a0<em>pro bono\u00a0<\/em>services to government employees. That sounds like a left-wing workaround to escape the dozens of states that have forbidden Zuck Buck-style private\u00a0<em>funding\u00a0<\/em>of government election offices by instead giving government officials\u00a0<em>services<\/em> and other in-kind support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But this kind of private takeover of government election offices is nothing new to Becker. During the 2020 election, Becker\u2019s left-wing nonprofit group, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/center-for-election-innovation-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Election Innovation and Research<\/a>\u00a0(CEIR), received roughly $70 million from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg that it funneled to government election offices to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/10\/13\/mark-zuckerberg-spent-419m-on-nonprofits-ahead-of-2020-election-and-got-out-the-dem-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drive Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts in blue areas of swing states<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Becker himself is a far-left activist with an extensive history of attacking conservatives. As an attorney for the Department of Justice, he was the subject of an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legalnewsline.com\/stories\/555822683-mark-zuckerberg-beneficiaries-promoting-fair-elections-not-exactly-non-partisan-as-advertised\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ethics complaint<\/a>\u00a0which revealed disparaging comments he made about Republicans via email. After his stint at the DOJ, Becker worked for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/people-for-the-american-way\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">People For The American Way<\/a>, a George Soros-funded leftist advocacy group best known for its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwingwatch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>\u00a0that attacks right-wing politicians. In 2012, Becker founded the Electronic Registration Information Center, a voter roll maintenance organization that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/11\/democratic-operatives-control-voter-rolls-in-31-states-report-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">inflates state\u2019s voter rolls instead of cleaning them<\/a>\u00a0(and in doing so, drives Democratic voter turnout). In 2016, Becker started CEIR, of which EOLDN is a project. He currently sits on the board of advisers for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/secure-elections-for-america-now-sean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Secure Elections for America Now<\/a>, a center-left advocacy group that promotes same-day voter registration and voting rights for convicted felons. <\/p>\n<p>Simply put, Becker and his operatives have taken over voter roll maintenance, voter registration and outreach, election administration (including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/politics-wisconsin-coronavirus-pandemic-elections-atlanta-25b5218ee92dadf78be274211bef6c6b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the counting and curing of ballots<\/a>), and now official elections communications \u2014 while being irreversibly compromised as Democrat activists. <\/p>\n<p>Private citizens who notice irregularities at their local election offices will have no chance of remedying suspicious or illegal practices when officials can defer to Becker and his team to characterize their actions as legal and label complaints \u201cdisinformation.\u201d Once EOLDN has control of state and local election offices\u2019 communications, it\u2019ll be that much easier to shut down citizen observers\u2019 concerns and flood election offices with left-wing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/22\/the-election-denier-smear-is-the-dumbest-rhetorical-device-in-modern-politics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">propaganda<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Victoria Marshall is a staff writer at The Federalist.
