Governor John Fetterman is supported by 52% of respondents, while Republican rival and celebrity cardiologist Dr. Mehmet Oz is backed by 47%. Voters also indicated a higher degree of favorability for the former candidate \u2014 56% of Fetterman supporters said they are pulling the lever for him \u201cmainly because\u201d they like him, while only 15% of Oz voters said the same about their preferred candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are hoping that Fetterman will help to provide a majority in the evenly divided Senate. However, Fetterman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hell-be-fine-pa-democratic-senate-nominee-cleared-by-doctor-to-campaign-after-suffering-a-stroke-days-before-primary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suffered a stroke<\/a> days before the commonwealth\u2019s primary election and has since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/new-john-fetterman-video-raises-questions-on-his-fitness-for-office-absolutely-cannot-debate-anyone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stumbled<\/a> through speeches at multiple campaign appearances. Roughly 41% of voters believe that Fetterman is not in \u201cgood enough health\u201d to serve in public office.<\/p>\n<p>The Fetterman campaign has repeatedly criticized Oz for his longtime residence in New Jersey. Only 33% of voters believe that Oz has been in Pennsylvania \u201clong enough to understand the state\u2019s issues.\u201d While 71% of poll respondents said that they would have preferred \u201csomeone different\u201d to headline the Republican ticket, 51% said the same about the Democratic ticket.<\/p>\n<p>Oz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-winner-emerges-in-republican-primary-for-u-s-senate-seat-in-pennsylvania\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">narrowly prevailed<\/a> over David McCormick, a former Bush administration official, in the Republican primary race after the latter conceded during recount deliberations. Republican voters at the time also found Oz to be the most polarizing candidate on the primary ballot.<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania is among the most closely watched states in the midterm elections. Due to the Supreme Court\u2019s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Pennsylvania \u2014 which has a Republican-led legislature \u2014 is likely to debate bills related to abortion after the midterms.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, 55% of voters plan to vote for Pennsylvania attorney general and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Josh Shapiro, and 44% plan to support Republican State Sen. Doug Mastriano.<\/p>\n<p>Although Mastriano <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/pennsylvanias-dem-governor-candidate-propped-up-his-own-rival-now-republicans-think-he-could-win\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decisively won<\/a> his primary race, Shapiro appeared to prefer him as an opponent in the general election \u2014\u00a0 even financing primary campaign advertisements that depicted Mastriano as \u201cahead in the polls,\u201d the author of Pennsylvania\u2019s heartbeat bill, a leader in the \u201cfight to audit the 2020 election,\u201d and \u201cone of Donald Trump\u2019s strongest supporters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite working to select Mastriano, Shapiro \u2014 who ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination \u2014 has been highly critical of his rival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am someone who has stood up for law enforcement. I am someone who has stood up for the rule of law, and he has been the exact opposite. He is dangerous,\u201d Shapiro <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/democrat-josh-shapiro-calls-republican-doug-mastriano-dangerous\/\">told<\/a> KDKA earlier this year. \u201cHe is destructive, and I would argue just for the fact that he was there on January 6 and sided with the insurrectionists over law enforcement, he is unfit to be the governor of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The robust performance from the Democrats comes as a surprise given low popularity ratings for President Joe Biden. According to the poll, 58% of respondents disapprove of the commander-in-chief, while only 42% approve.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond abortion, economic troubles such as inflationary pressures and rising gas prices are likely to be defining issues for Pennsylvanian voters. The economy and inflation were ranked as the top issues facing residents, with abortion coming in third.
