Let us take this moment to thank Senator Lindsey Graham, of course, driving more women to vote Democrat in the fall,\u201d Behar said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you, so much, because that is exactly what he did, and that\u2019s why people like Jim Jordan are running like rats away from him,\u201d Behar continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s bad politics for Republicans,\u201d Alyssa Farah Griffin replied. \u201cFor a long time my party has argued states should decide abortion rights \u2026 This should have always been decided by the states, so Lindsey Graham just went completely rogue by saying this should be federally \u2013\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy do you think he did that?\u201d Behar interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he thought it was going to give him goodwill with some parts of the base, but I disagree with the approach entirely,\u201d Griffin continued, noting that most Americans did agree with some restrictions on abortion \u2014 particularly in the later weeks of pregnancy. \u201cFifteen weeks is on par with some places in Europe, but let states make that decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow about let the women make that decision? The hell with the states,\u201d Whoopi Goldberg interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe women voting in the states,\u201d Griffin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cExcuse me. When you throw it to the federal level though, it should apply to all states,\u201d Haines objected then, saying that Graham\u2019s bill would still allow for individual states to make more restrictive laws. \u201cHe also cherry-picked the way it applies. He calls it a late term \u2013 late term abortion act. By the way, 15 weeks, for anyone that doesn\u2019t know, is one week into your second trimester and just to clear up an often-referenced myth that is used to get a certain political outcome, there is no such thing as people having late-term abortions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSay that again,\u201d cohost Goldberg interrupted again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no such thing as people having late-term abortions,\u201d Haines repeated, to applause from the audience.<\/p>\n<p>Haines then immediately contradicted that statement, saying that some 1.3% of abortions were performed after 21 weeks \u2014 which would generally be considered \u201clate term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSay that again,\u201d Goldberg interrupted again, this time prompting laughter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is only done for heartbreaking medical reasons. I have yet to see one situation where someone decides that,\u201d Haines concluded. \u201cThat is being a myth being shopped around to get a certain political outcome.
