But when he\u00a0repeated the familiar argument that letting trans kids follow through medically can keep them from killing themselves, Owens and Newgent disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrans youth have an incredibly high suicide rate,\u201d Perez said.\u00a0\u201cAnd as a parent, I want to do whatever I can to help my kid. I would go down the therapy route first, and if we\u2019re a few years into that and my child is now 15 or 16 and telling me they\u2019re suicidal, then I would consider, explore, or move forward with hormone blockers because the guilt would eat me alive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We told you <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RealCandaceO?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@RealCandaceO<\/a> was coming in hot. Helps children. Every single one of those studies has been retracted, or modified.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hilton wondered what the parent of a trans child could do if he or she as well as the child all agreed on medical intervention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat do you propose?\u201d Hilton asked. \u201cAre you saying that there should be laws enacted that tell parents how they should parent?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hormone treatments and surgery should not be an option for children, according to Owens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I\u2019m actually proposing is that no child should be able to make a decision to mutilate their body \u2013 and to me, it\u2019s child abuse,\u201d Owens said. \u201cThey do not have the ability to understand what is going to happen to them long term. You are relying on your parents to direct you in a way that is not going to harm you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Puberty blockers are not reversible, despite the mainstream media\u2019s position, Owens said. Saying otherwise risks promoting procedures that cause long-term damage for children, she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Owens said she empathizes with people, especially kids, suffering from gender dysphoria and would rather they were helped in ways that weren\u2019t permanently disfiguring.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still hold [gender dysphoria] as a mental illness,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I do not want people who are mentally ill to be harmed. I think that is what gets lost when they see conservatives fighting this. It\u2019s like, \u2018oh, you\u2019re transphobic, you hate\u2019 \u2013 no. I want to help. I don\u2019t hate them.
