Joe Manchin (D-WV) is both sexist and racist for opposing Biden nominee Neera Tanden to head the\u00a0Office of Management and Budget.<\/p>\n<p>Manchin, who holds a crucial swing vote in the Senate, has come out <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/schumer-biden-still-trying-extra-174000879.html\">against<\/a> Tanden for her past\u00a0\u201covertly partisan statements\u201d that he fears \u201cwill have a toxic and detrimental impact on the important working relationship between members of Congress and the next\u201d OMB director.<\/p>\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\">\u201cWomen\u2019s rights activists and allied Democrats are growing increasingly vocal about what they call the unfair targeting of women and people of color nominated by Joe Biden to top posts in his administration,\u201d a lengthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2021\/02\/22\/biden-nominations-gop-manchin-tanden-471080\">report<\/a> published Monday at Politico argued.<\/p>\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\">\u201cTheir fears had been bubbling for weeks, as Biden\u2019s nominees of color came under sharp attack from conservative groups or saw their nominations delayed or opposed in greater numbers,\u201d the report added. \u201cBut the worries burst out into the open over the weekend as Neera Tanden\u2019s nomination to lead the Office of Management and Budget neared defeat at the hands of a Democrat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA), head of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, suggested there is a \u201cdouble standard\u201d when it comes to nominees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a double standard going on,\u201d accused Chu. \u201cHer (Tanden) nomination is very significant for us Asian American and Pacific Islanders. I do believe that this double standard has to do with the fact that she would be a pioneer in that position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Politico noted that Manchin voted to confirm Trump-pick Richard Grenell, \u201cthe acid-tongued Trump booster, to the post of U.S. ambassador to Germany,\u201d seemingly agreeing with the left-wing accusations:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\" data-content-child-index=\"0-1\"><em>Inside the White House, it did not go unnoticed that many of the lawmakers objecting to Tanden\u2019s social media missives\u2014including Manchin\u2014voted to confirm Richard Grenell, the acid-tongued Trump booster, to the post of U.S. ambassador to Germany. Democrats on and off the Hill likewise argued that Tanden, who is of South Asian descent, was one of several nominees of color being treated differently than Trump-era nominees who lobbed personal attacks or expressed bigoted views.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\" data-content-child-index=\"0-2\">Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) spoke of a \u201cpattern that is happening and increasingly hard to ignore\u201d when it comes to certain nominees and Manchin.<\/p>\n<p class=\" story-text__paragraph\" data-content-child-index=\"0-2\">\u201cWe can disagree with her tweets, but in the past, Trump nominees that they\u2019ve confirmed and supported had much more serious issues and conflicts than just something that was written on Twitter,\u201d Meng said.\u00a0\u201cThis is not just about any one nominee like Neera, or whoever else \u2014 it\u2019s just about this pattern that is happening and increasingly hard to ignore.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Is there a pattern here???
