According to the court filing, Trump\u2019s legal team and the DOJ will \u201cadvise the Court about their respective positions on the other party\u2019s proposed candidates\u201d on Sept. 12.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon on Sept. 5 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/judge-grants-trump-motion-for-special-master-to-review-records-fbi-seized_4711262.html\">granted<\/a> Trump\u2019s request to have a special master independently review seized documents that may be protected by attorney-client or executive privilege. Days later, The DOJ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/doj-urges-court-to-partially-halt-order-for-trump-special-master_4719409.html\">filed<\/a> an appeal against the judge\u2019s order, arguing that doing so would place \u201cirreparable harm\u201d to U.S. national security.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the question of who will serve as special master, Trump\u2019s legal team and the DOJ are apart on the scope of duties the individual would have. Lawyers for Trump want the special master to review \u201call seized materials, including documents with classification markings,\u201d but the DOJ said it does not believe the individual should be permitted to review any classified records or consider potential claims of executive privilege.<\/p>\n<p>The four candidates that Trump and the DOJ have proposed as potential special masters are as follows.<\/p>\n<p> Trump\u2019s Choices <\/p>\n<p>The first of two Trump\u2019s choices is Raymond J. Dearie, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyed.uscourts.gov\/content\/judge-raymond-j-dearie\">began<\/a> his federal judicial service in 1986, the year he was nominated by then-President Ronald Regan and confirmed by the Senate to be a U.S. district judge for the Eastern District of New York.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in 2007, he became the court\u2019s chief judge, a position he held until 2011.
