But according to a royal expert, the decision wasn\u2019t really up to Markle \u2014 the former actress wasn\u2019t invited by the family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s understood that the family wanted Prince Harry to be there, even though he was unable to get to Balmoral in time to see his grandmother,\u201d royal expert\u00a0Katie Nicholl <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/meghan-markle-was-not-invited-to-join-royal-family-amid-queen-elizabeths-death-royal-expert-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> Entertainment Tonight.\u00a0\u201cBut Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, was not, we understand, invited to join the family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has said she will go to Balmoral another time,\u201d Nicholl added. \u201cBut I think it is quite significant that Prince Harry traveled to Balmoral on his own without his wife.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Meghan was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellomagazine.com\/royalty\/20220908150419\/meghan-markle-prince-harry-prepare-emotional-evening-wellchild\/\">reportedly<\/a> alone in London, while her children\u00a0Archie and Lilibet remain at the family\u2019s home in Montecito, California, with their nanny.<\/p>\n<p>Kate Middleton, now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glamour.com\/story\/kate-middleton-is-officially-the-first-princess-of-wales-since-princess-diana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">officially<\/a> the first Princess of Wales since Princess Diana, also did not make the journey to Balmoral, but <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/kate-middleton-did-not-travel-scotland-queen-elizabeth-balmoral-castle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a> say it was because she was with her children on their first day of school.<\/p>\n<p>Middleton was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etonline.com\/meghan-markle-was-not-invited-to-join-royal-family-amid-queen-elizabeths-death-royal-expert-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spotted<\/a> picking up her three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, from school on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The 40-year-old and the queen reportedly spent quality time together in recent weeks during a family visit to Balmoral, People magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/kate-middleton-did-not-travel-scotland-queen-elizabeth-balmoral-castle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Markle and Prince Harry have distanced themselves from the royal family in recent years, giving up royal titles and throwing out charges of racism.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, rumors about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/meghan-markle-bullied-royal-aides-complaint-was-filed-report-says\">Markle bullying royal aides<\/a> popped up in the media. In July, an investigation into the allegations concluded, but findings are being kept under wraps, allegedly because Buckingham Palace is \u201cterrified\u201d of antagonizing Meghan and Prince Harry, who\u2019ve routinely trashed all things royal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsidering those who participated [in the investigation] did so at great personal and reputational risk to themselves, the fact that they haven\u2019t even been told what the findings are is unfathomable,\u201d a source explained. \u201cI am sure they will be deeply distressed, but perhaps not entirely surprised given how things have been handled.
