The local press, however, found a way to pin the blame on former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, police arrested 45-year-old Clark County Administrator Robert Telles over the murder of veteran investigative reporter at the Las Vegas Review-Journal Jeff German, who was stabbed at his home last Friday.<\/p>\n<p>A reporter present at a local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oskc6W8iJ_k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press briefing<\/a> with Las Vegas Sheriff Joe Lombardo Thursday sought to indict Trump for the crime. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSheriff, you said the murder of a journalist is especially troubling. Now is probably not the time to talk politics,\u201d the unnamed female reporter began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo why are we talking politics?\u201d Lombardo interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>The reporter continued with her political question.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you condemn former President Trump\u2019s normalization of violence against journalists?\u201d she asked. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"yN9Nri9V4auvtTQqewWQiXpXsa8lltyWYgCV8KYFzFk1RqPjdOk5ZAohDwM6JGd014o6\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A Democrat elected official allegedly stabbed an investigative reporter to death last Friday in Nevada.<\/p>\n<p>At the press conference responding to the incident, a reporter decided to ask the sheriff whether he condemned DONALD TRUMP. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/g2N6PcAg4q\">pic.twitter.com\/g2N6PcAg4q<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Daily Caller (@DailyCaller) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller\/status\/1568248020323520512?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 9, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cNo, I think this [is] probably inappropriate to speculate on that or opine on that,\u201d Lombardo said. \u201cIt needs to be stated and noted that it is troublesome because it is a journalist\u2026 When people take it upon themselves to create harm associated with that profession, I think it\u2019s very important that we put all eyes on and address the case appropriately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, prosecutors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/09\/08\/us\/jeff-german-las-vegas-reporter-arrest-thursday\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revea<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/09\/08\/us\/jeff-german-las-vegas-reporter-arrest-thursday\/index.html\">led<\/a> a treasure trove of DNA evidence that linked Telles to the stabbing. The county administrator\u2019s arrest came after prosecutors matched shoes and a unique straw hat from neighborhood footage of the crime scene to the local politician. Matching DNA was also apparently found under the victim\u2019s fingernails. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe DNA is alleged to have been recovered from the hand of the victim, presumably during the time in which he was fighting for his life,\u201d Justice of the Peace Elana Lee Graham said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/09\/08\/us\/jeff-german-las-vegas-reporter-arrest-thursday\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according<\/a> to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>German, 69, had joined the Vegas Review-Journal in 2010 after more than two decades at the Las Vegas Sun covering crime, corruption, and government. The longtime journalist was stabbed months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/investigations\/county-office-in-turmoil-with-secret-video-and-claims-of-bullying-hostility-2577147\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reporting<\/a> on a hostile work environment in the county administrator\u2019s office and an \u201cinappropriate relationship\u201d between Telles and a staffer. Telles denied the allegations but lost in the June Democrat primary for another term.
