However, recent polling has shown Democrats <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/republicans-democrats-midterm-polling-rcp-fivethirtyeight-red-wave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">making gains in some races<\/a>, giving the party a glimpse of hope for several high-profile races. <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/community-family\/here-are-midterm-issues-ohio-voters-care-about-most\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MIDTERMS 2022: HERE ARE THE ISSUES OHIO VOTERS CARE ABOUT THE MOST<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>Democrats are homing in on the Ohio Senate race between Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) and Trump-backed challenger J.D. Vance, a race that is likely to determine which party will control the Senate for the next two years. Recent polling <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2022\/senate\/oh\/ohio_senate_vance_vs_ryan-7624.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indicates a tight race<\/a>, offering Democrats a chance to flip a seat in a state led mostly by Republicans. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, I can tell you that for the mere fact that Congressman Ryan has been consistently neck and neck or in the lead in this race should tell you something,\u201d Derrick Clay, a former political director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/3635032-democrats-aim-to-make-ohio-a-swing-state-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told the<\/a><i> Hill<\/i>. \u201cWe\u2019re talking more about Tim Ryan than we are about J.D. Vance. \u2026 I think that\u2019s going to resonate with voters in November.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Some Democratic House nominees have also shown strength in recent weeks, particularly Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), who was once considered a vulnerable candidate after the state\u2019s redistricting left her political future unclear. The race, in which she faces Republican J.R. Majewski, has since been <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/ratings\/house-race-ratings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deemed a toss-up<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden is set to visit the state on Friday for the opening of a new Intel semiconductor facility, highlighting Democratic hopes that the president could be a competitive candidate in 2024. <\/p>\n<p>However, several Democratic candidates have sought to distance themselves from Biden during their midterm campaigns. Ryan broke with the president after he announced his student loan forgiveness plan, arguing the country should instead focus on <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/3618540-tim-ryan-says-he-prefers-tax-cuts-over-student-loan-debt-forgiveness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">broader debt relief and tax cuts<\/a> for all \u201cworking people.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Kaptur has also distanced herself from Biden, explicitly <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2022-08-19\/kaptur-releases-new-ad-breaking-with-biden-in-ohio-house-race\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">criticizing the president in a new campaign ad<\/a> for \u201cletting Ohio solar manufacturers be undercut by China.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><b><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n<p>Democrats face an uphill battle to restore Ohio\u2019s status as a swing state, as Republicans hold every statewide office, with the exception of Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH). However, some analysts believe that is changing. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you look at all of the major cities across the state of Ohio, they\u2019re all Democrat,\u201d Clay said. \u201cOhio was a swing state for a long time.
