As a result, officials in California have issued several warnings and reminders urging residents to voluntarily decrease power usage during peak demand hours.<\/p>\n<p>Among other measures, the state asked citizens last week to avoid \u201ccharging electric vehicles\u201d \u2014 a request that raised eyebrows due to the announcement of an upcoming ban on new gas-powered cars released days earlier. The California Air Resources Board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-expected-to-ban-sale-of-new-gas-cars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued new rules<\/a> requiring 35% of new vehicles to produce zero emissions by 2026 \u2014 a standard that will rise to a 68% benchmark by 2030 and a 100% benchmark by 2035.<\/p>\n<p>The legislatures of Massachusetts, Washington, and Virginia have previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/two-more-states-follow-californias-ban-on-new-gas-cars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a> laws conforming their states to standards approved by the agency. However, Republican lawmakers in Virginia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/virginia-forced-to-comply-with-californias-ban-on-new-gas-cars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hope to repeal<\/a> the laws approved by Democratic predecessors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn an effort to turn Virginia into California, liberal politicians who previously ran our government sold Virginia out by subjecting Virginia drivers to California vehicle laws,\u201d Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) wrote in a statement. \u201cNow, under that pact, Virginians will be forced to adopt the California law that prohibits the sale of gas and diesel-fueled vehicles. I am already at work to prevent this ridiculous edict from being forced on Virginians. California\u2019s out of touch laws have no place in our Commonwealth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amid the power grid issues, California was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-plan-to-shut-down-last-nuclear-plant-would-carry-severe-consequences-democrat-senator-warns\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prepared to shutter<\/a> the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, which is responsible for 8% of overall energy and 17% of carbon-free energy in the state. After a warning from Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and other officials, however, the California legislature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-passes-54-billion-in-climate-spending-votes-to-keep-nuclear-plant-open-but-infringes-on-oil-and-gas-wells\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voted to extend<\/a> the facility\u2019s life span by another five years.<\/p>\n<p>California witnessed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-begs-residents-to-protect-energy-grid-scale-back-charging-electric-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">round of blackouts<\/a> during last year\u2019s Labor Day weekend.
