In fact, when USA\u2019s camera took note of the fire, Harvick\u2019s entire cockpit was filled with smoke as he tried to bring the vehicle down the track.<\/p>\n<p>Harvick states in his in-car radio, \u201cMy rocker panel is on fire.\u201d The fire continues to grow and he eventually brings the car to a stop and quickly leaps from the vehicle right before the fire appears to engulf the majority of the cockpit.<\/p>\n<p>Harvick would vacate the vehicle jumping over the inside wall. The track safety crew eventually arrived and put the fire out with a number of extinguishers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n<div class=\"video-player youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"title\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boundingintosports.com\/2022\/08\/after-failing-to-make-playoffs-bubba-wallace-to-race-kurt-buschs-no-45-car-for-owners-championship-in-final-10-races\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">After Failing To Make Playoffs, Bubba Wallace To Race Kurt Busch\u2019s No. 45 Car For Owner\u2019s Championship In Final 10 Races<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the race, Harvick spoke with Marty Snider and explained how the fire started and expressed his frustration with NASCAR, which mandates parts come from specific vendors and that each team is supplied with the exact same parts and pieces.<\/p>\n<p>He began, \u201cI\u2019m sure it\u2019s just the crappy parts on the race car like we\u2019ve seen so many times. We haven\u2019t fixed anything. It\u2019s kind of like the safety stuff, we just let it keep going and keep going. And the car started burning and as it burns, you know, the flames started coming through the dash and I ran a couple of laps and then as the flame got bigger it started burning stuff up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Specifically referring to the moment when he brought the car to a stop he says, \u201cAnd I think right there you see all the brake fluid that was coming out of the brakes. It burned a brake line. But the fire was coming through the dash.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n<div class=\"video-player youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Harvick then exclaimed, \u201cWhat a disaster, man! No reason. We didn\u2019t touch the wall, we didn\u2019t touch a car, and here we are in the pits with a burned up car and can\u2019t finish the race during the playoffs because of crappy a** parts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just stopped. The rocker was on fire for a couple laps. We just keep letting cars burn up, letting people crash into stuff, get hurt. We don\u2019t fix anything. Now, we just riding around out there and the car catches on fire. So just s***ty parts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked how this affects his race in the playoffs Harvick responded, \u201cWell, they don\u2019t care. It\u2019s cheaper to not fix it.\u201d He was then asked how do you change it and he replied, \u201cFind somebody new to run the the show that can run it.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-block full\">\n<div class=\"video-player youtube\">[embedded content]<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>With his car erupting into flames and eventually being towed back to the garage area, Harvick finished in 33rd. He\u2019s now dead last of the 16 drivers in the playoffs. He\u2019s 49 points behind current leader Joey Logano and 13 points behind Daniel Su\u00e1rez, who is currently in 12th and occupying the final cutoff spot.<\/p>\n<p>There are still two more races in this segment of the playoffs. The Cup Series heads to Kansas this upcoming weekend.
