Who can really blame her? Here she is today:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"HS1X3oW2JYUPrA2qCcVtQepTKV4c6qAsG8yfOUSv74DwkyjW1ZB7NOhrmCp5IBRFHTdgnxLuNDe8EGkf5JMj\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I can\u2019t believe we\u2019re still talking about this, but my emails\u2026<\/p>\n<p>As Trump\u2019s problems continue to mount, the right is trying to make this about me again. There\u2019s even a \u201cClinton Standard.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The fact is that I had zero emails that were classified.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HillaryClinton\/status\/1567164268172173315?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 6, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>None of what Clinton says in her thread is even remotely true.<\/p>\n<p>Hillary contends that \u201cComey admitted he was wrong after he claimed I had classified emails.\u201d Even if the former FBI director had changed his mind, it would not have mattered very much once he was out of office. But Comey never did any such thing. After scrupulously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/news\/press-releases\/press-releases\/statement-by-fbi-director-james-b-comey-on-the-investigation-of-secretary-hillary-clinton2019s-use-of-a-personal-e-mail-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">detailing<\/a> Hillary\u2019s numerous evasions of laws governing the handling of classified information in July of 2016, Comey let the former Secretary of State skate, maintaining the FBI couldn\u2019t prove intent. Clinton, he said, had merely been \u201cextremely careless\u201d in \u201chandling of very sensitive, highly classified information.\u201d Comey didn\u2019t charge Hillary, probably to save himself the trauma of indicting someone <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2018\/apr\/13\/james-comey-book-hillary-clinton-email-investigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he believed<\/a> would be the next president.<\/p>\n<p>If you truly believe that Hillary, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.wttw.com\/2016\/07\/27\/obama-hillary-clinton-most-qualified-presidential-candidate-ever\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the most<\/a> \u201cqualified candidate ever,\u201d had stumbled into setting up a secret server that was specifically used to circumvent government transparency, you\u2019re a gullible fool. Whatever you believe, though, according to the FBI, Clinton sent 110 emails with clearly marked classified information \u2014 36 of those emails contained secret information, and eight of those email chains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/07\/06\/us\/politics\/fbi-findings-damage-many-of-hillary-clintons-claims.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contained<\/a> \u201ctop secret\u201d information. And the FBI also found that Hillary should have known many other topics under the discussion were classified, even if they were not so marked. \u201cWe assess it is possible that hostile actors gained access to Secretary Clinton\u2019s personal e-mail account,\u201d Comey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/news\/press-releases\/press-releases\/statement-by-fbi-director-james-b-comey-on-the-investigation-of-secretary-hillary-clinton2019s-use-of-a-personal-e-mail-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> at the time. The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/07\/07\/us\/hillary-clintons-email-was-probably-hacked-experts-say.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">concurred<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>None of this has ever been disproved or debunked or challenged by evidence. At no time ever did Comey, or anyone else at the Justice Department, assert or admit or imply that Hillary\u2019s server had \u201cZERO\u201d classified emails on it. A State Department investigation concluded in 2019 found that though Hillary and her staff may not have \u201csystemically\u201d used the server to discuss classified information, they did engage in <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2019\/10\/18\/hillary-clinton-violations-state-department-emails\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">600 security violations<\/a> \u2014 not only corresponding with other state officials and aides but with partisan hacks like Sidney Blumenthal, as well.<\/p>\n<p>And the claim made by Clinton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/think\/opinion\/trump-search-warrant-draws-hillary-clinton-comparisons-big-difference-rcna42921\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">apologists<\/a> that she cooperated with the investigators is one of the most misleading. In March 2015, Clinton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/story\/2015\/03\/hillary-clinton-address-email-controversy-115903#ixzz3TzpwB8IS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">alleged<\/a> that she \u201cnever sent any classified material \u2014 nor received any \u2014 marked classified.\u201d In September of that year, Hillary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2015\/sep\/27\/hillary-clinton-email-scandal-conspiracy-theory-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told reporters<\/a>, even as her staff was trying to destroy evidence, that her email scandal was \u201canother conspiracy theory.\u201d Comey noted in his original congressional testimony that Hillary\u2019s staff had \u201ccleaned their devices in such a way as to preclude complete forensic recovery. There is no definition of \u201ccooperation\u201d in existence that includes people under subpoena using BleachBit to destroy 30,000 and breaking cell phones with hammers.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Comey was still professing that Clinton\u2019s server emailing wasn\u2019t premeditated criminal behavior, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/comey-admits-mistakes-describing-clintons-sloppy-handling-classified\/story?id=54487996\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conceding<\/a> that he \u201cshould\u2019ve worked harder to find a way to convey that it\u2019s more than just the ordinary mistake, but it\u2019s not criminal behavior, and find different words to describe that.\u201d Even then, he never walked back the FBI\u2019s conclusion that the emails were classified and top secret. Considering the FBI\u2019s partisan disposition these days, that says a lot.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than being thankful that she spared an indictment, the shameless Hillary went on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4r4XG-IytVw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to blame<\/a> the \u201cComey letter\u201d for her loss. Let\u2019s remember that the laptop with classified emails that sparked the letter was found in the possession of Hillary\u2019s top aide\u2019s skeevy husband, who was sexting with a teen girl. Paul Krugman, and others, claimed the FBI had \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/11\/07\/opinion\/how-to-rig-an-election.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rigged<\/a>\u201d the 2016 election with the letter. Of course, the FBI letter would never have been necessary if Hillary hadn\u2019t engaged in her typical shady behavior or admitted her actions and cooperated early on. Comey not only had an ethical obligation to write Congress, as he had promised to do so if new evidence emerged but also a legal obligation to inform a congressional committee investigating the scandal. <\/p>\n<p>Those who argue that Comey should have quashed developments in the case are really maintaining they believe the DOJ should have kept quiet about an existing investigation to help a Democrat win the presidency. This is what Democrats have come to expect from the FBI. But the retconning of the Hillary email scandal is a transparent effort to shield the crass hypocrisy of those now clamoring for the prosecution of Donald Trump over his possession of classified documents.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">\n  David Harsanyi is a senior editor at The Federalist.
