The Chinese regime began its largest military drills near Taiwan in August following U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s visit to the island.<\/p>\n<h2>$1.1 Billion Arms Sale<\/h2>\n<p>The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/taiwan-to-purchase-us-anti-ship-and-air-to-air-missiles-for-1-1-billion_4708383.html\">said Saturday<\/a> that it had formally informed Congress about the possible arms sale, which totals just over $1.1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>It includes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dsca.mil\/press-media\/major-arms-sales\/taipei-economic-and-cultural-representative-office-united-states-aim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">100 Sidewinder<\/a>\u00a0anti-aircraft missiles and four tactical guidance units worth $85.6 million,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dsca.mil\/press-media\/major-arms-sales\/taipei-economic-and-cultural-representative-office-united-states-agm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">60 Harpoon<\/a>\u00a0anti-ship missiles and four Harpoon exercise missiles for $355 million, and a $665.4 million\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dsca.mil\/press-media\/major-arms-sales\/taipei-economic-and-cultural-representative-office-united-states-24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">surveillance radar system.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The three contracts also include related military equipment, parts, as well as technical and logistic support services.\u00a0This marks the sixth arms sale approved under the Biden administration, according to the DSCA.<\/p>\n<p>Taiwan\u2019s Presidential Office said the arms sale would help the self-ruled island strengthen its self-defense and cope with China\u2019s military pressure surrounding its border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not escalate conflicts or provoke disputes, but Taiwan will firmly demonstrate its determination and capability of self-defense to defend the nation\u2019s sovereignty,\u201d the office said in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.president.gov.tw\/NEWS\/26935\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Taiwan\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/taiwan-shooting-down-a-drone-near-china-was-appropriate-premier_4706391.html\">military shot down<\/a>\u00a0a drone that entered its airspace near one of its islands on Sept. 1. Taiwan\u00a0Premier Su Tseng-chang said\u00a0that Taiwan had repeatedly issued warnings to China over its incursions but they were ignored.<\/p>\n<h2>US Policy on Taiwan<\/h2>\n<p>U.S. President Joe Biden has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-promises-to-keep-commitment-to-defend-taiwan-in-case-of-attack-by-china_4483707.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said that<\/a>\u00a0Washington will defend Taiwan if China attacks, but the U.S. policy on Taiwan remains unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe agree with a \u2018One China\u2019 policy, we\u2019ve signed onto it, and all the intended agreements made from there.
