It said that if bills continue to increase and prices rise by over 50 percent, which they expect in the next 12 months, more drastic action such as shutdowns and redundancies will become inevitable.<\/p>\n<p>The manufacturing industry, which employs 2.5 million people, is the latest to announce that it is under the cosh of rising energy prices.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 23, the\u00a0Federation of Small Businesses warned of \u201ca generation of lost businesses, jobs, and potential\u201d with\u00a0fish and chip shops coping with a \u00a352,000 ($60,000) increase in utility cost.<\/p>\n<p>UK brewery and pub bosses said gas and electricity bills will hit them harder than the lockdowns did. Some ancient <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/energy-crisis-will-hit-pubs-harder-than-lockdowns-say-industry-bosses_4698303.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">English pubs<\/a>, that barely survived the government\u2019s response to COVID-19, could be calling last orders over the issue.<\/p>\n<h2>Capping Prices<\/h2>\n<p>Supplying weighing machines since 1715,\u00a0John White &#038; Son is\u00a0Scotland\u2019s oldest family firm.<\/p>\n<p>Finance Director\u00a0Bethan Onuonga told The Epoch Times that capping prices for 12 to 18 months would help the company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of managing, we just have to absorb the costs, products, ranges to satisfy the increase in utilities,\u201d said Onuonga.<\/p>\n<p>He added that as things currently are, things are manageable but \u201cnow is the time to put a pause on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have fixed hours that remain for another eight months. But the quotations we\u2019ve received have upwards of 30\u201350 percent of what we previously had,\u201d added Onuonga.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/liz-truss-to-become-new-uk-prime-minister-taking-over-from-boris-johnson_4710904.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Conservative leader Liz Truss<\/a> will be under pressure support to help consumers and businesses cope. She promised that she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/truss-vows-to-act-on-energy-costs-in-a-week-if-she-becomes-uk-prime-minister_4709789.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">would act on issues<\/a> related to the cost of energy within a week of becoming the new occupant of Number 10 Downing Street.<\/p>\n<p>Asked on Sunday by the BBC\u2019s Laura Kuenssberg what she planned to do on energy bills, Truss said: \u201cBefore you have been elected as prime minister, you don\u2019t have all the wherewithal to get the things done. This is why it will take a week to sort out the precise plans and make sure we are able to announce them. That is why I cannot go into details at this stage.
